Perhaps we can do it again in a few months time or even attempt to bring the soapbox album club back? Why not do both? There's also no need to wait so long, it doesnt take much (except for Barny ) to lob some tracks into a zip and up em. We all listen to music constantly and this is a good way to share tastes and such. The album club was fun while it lasted as well. I say just do both. We could run the album club every 2 weeks like before and do mixtape exchanges monthly. Since this started I have only browsed the soapbox from work, but I have a list nearly completed. I'll be back to my rutine next week. AND I NEVER CONFIRMED MY PARTICIPATION, BLAME THE POSTMAN

I'd argue that the album club should be every 3 weeks & the mix tape maybe every other month just to keep the idea's fresh as with most things on here it won't take long for everybody to fall behind & stop giving a shit but yeah, we'll get things going after this lot of mixes is done. Will check out many of these after the weekend & sort brother JP he's one out probably monday.

JP SUPERMIX1; Billy Nichols - Would You Believe? Some British kid from the 60s who was hired to make a response to Pet Sounds. The album was shelved before it ever even got released so was a lost classic for many years. Billy eventually self released it 30 years later. Steve Marriott from Small Faces is on this track too. Good shit.2; Buck 65 - Blood of a Young WolfI love Buck but rarely see him mentioned on this board. A hip hop artist who is sounds as much like Lee Hazlewood and Tom Waits as he does any hip hop artist.3; Abyssinians - Satta MassaganaOne of the best roots reggae songs of all time.4; Dara Puspita - A Go Go60s girl group from Indonesia. Great stuff and I'd imagine quite a heavy influence on bands like Vivian Girls n stuff.5; Bill Callahan - Diamond DancerAnother amazing artist who I feel is overlooked on these forums. I've heard this song described as classic 70s Bowie sung by Lou Reed and I can see where they're coming from on that.6; All the Young - ArcaneHUGE TUNE7; Arthur Russell - A Little LostOne of the most interesting artists of all time who has posthumously finally started to get some of the recognition he deserved in life. A lot of his most successful stuff is more closely linked with the dance genre but I went for this one as it is fucking beautiful.8; Pen Expers - Valentine ShirtSwedish band who to me sound like a mix of Nick Cave and British Sea Power. Nothing original but good tune.9; James Chance and the Contortions - Contort YourselfI got quite heavily into the No Wave scene of late 70s New York a couple of years ago and this was by far one of the best songs from that era. Bringing together jazz, funk and punk to create something distinctly unique. You can see how the likes of The Rapture were influenced by this.10; The Golden Dawn - My Time60s American psychedlic rock not too dissimilar to 13th Floor Elevators and Love. Big fan of this tune, huge stuff.11; Isan - Look and YesTime for a bit of electronica. This band always seemed to stay firmly under the radar but I've always thought this song was really fucking good.12; Lee Moses - Bad Girl pt1Only got into this guy fairly recently but this song properly blew me away. Amazing soulful vocals. Only got this in shit bitrate though but thought it was worth including regardless. Put it last in case anyone is too much of a sound nazi and refuses to listen. In that case FORGET THIS SONG EVER HAPPENED.link has been turtled. enjoy guys and i look forward to hearing some feedback xxxx Attachments:

MAGNETO'S MIXTAPEI tried to get this to come up on I Tunes as an album but it's fuckt up a bit. You will need to manually insert the album cover which is a picture of my mate Fazza. Good lad. What The World Wasn't Waiting For - Libertines Legacy MixtapeSo having started to put this together minus a few tracks I wanted to put in (Rudebox, Minder Theme Tune etc) it quickly became apparant most bands were from this era and it's probably the only stuff I have heard that some of the bookworms (Karl, JP, Kev etc) may not have heard. It appears Bart has heard of the mighty Towers so he might have heard a bit. I hope he hasn't and enjoys it. It's hardly groundbreaking but it is atleast fun 1. The Black Amnesias - Hope Of The StatesEpic instrumental opener from their debut album which is the bollox. Makes me wanna smash stuff up. 2. Diets, Pills and Magazines - HumanziThe Irish Libertines! They didn't really do much and their music is a bit shit, this tune is fucking banging though. Makes me wanna smash stuff up. Big tunes on my running playlists. THIS IS THE SHIT SO GET USED TO IT.3. Horrors - SilveryThe singer was a big dog on the libertines forum (where Pete used to post) who I had down as a prick as I let him in at the bar once and he didn't say thank you. Started cunting him off a lot on the forum after that Eventually gave the album a spin after rave reviews and thought it was shit. Eventually thawed and got into a few tunes and this is one. It's good. 4. On a Noose - Towers of TCOTURemember when I came to prominence on the forum? With my Towers sig and cunting people off left, right and centre. ^^^6 Month Ban^^^ NARK and Poindexter. Good times. The Towers wern't a joke though. Albums the fucking bollox and this is maybe the best tune on it. I'M ON A NOOSE AND I NEVER EVEN TRIED.Fucking powerful lyrics. 5. Don't Go Back To The One You Love - YetiI was talking to Mahoney about this tune/album the other night and he was adament it was shit which is strange because it's sort of up his street. This tune is big with an obvious nod to East Coast America type shit. 6. Revelations - Babyshambles feat MC PurpleFar better than it has any right to be. Easily Pete's best post Libs chorus. 7. The Winter Gardens - Special NeedsUndoubtedly the best band from that whole scene. All the demoes and singles are amazing, and the album is pretty good as well. It's just good clean fun. Something you can dance to 8. I Could Never Lie - The RiflesAre the Rifles a post Libs band? Yes they are. They played Time For Heroes before they came on the other night so it's a fact. This is their best unknown-ish song. It's from The Great Escape EP. 9. What A Waster - Adam GreenEveryone's probably heard this. 10. Napoleon - WolfmanNo one has probably heard this. Dicks all over For Lovers and is his best song. IT CAME OVER ME AS A GUNSHOT GOT MY NAME FROM SOME TART HE KNOCKED OFF PULLED THE TRIGGER, EASY WITH A SAWN OFF I SOAKED UP THE BLOOD WITH A DISH CLOTH11. Panic Attack - PaddingtonsShit band. Decent song. Somehow this is the second mixtape they have appeared on. 12. Bad Weekend - Art BrutBig tune. I think it's the single version or a demo or something so that should be interesting. Also the second mixtape they have appeared on. THEIR TEXTING TOPSHOP, THEIR TEXTING TOPSHOP13. A Master's In Drug Taking - Thee UnstrungAfter the savaged album came out they quietly released an e.p which had three brilliant songs on it. This is one. It's about Dominic Masters. I've been on the piss with the singer Ben a few times. Good lad. 14. Truth Begins - Dirty Pretty ThingsThe amount of shit the secong DPT album gets ANNOYS because this is on it and it's a lovely ode to friendship. I still enjoy walking around Holborn when the sun's out in summer and blasting this out. 15. This Is For The Poor - The OthersThe Others love letter to the working classes. It got to 41 in the charts I think which was pretty fucking exciting at the time. 16. Khama Chameleon - Pete DohertyA bit of fun to end on I hope you enjoy it Bart and I'll give yours a spin tomorrow. God Speed.

Great shout with Special Needs Sam, I hadn't listened to the album is an age and came across it again a few weeks back, Its a really decent little album, a shame they split up before it came out, they were definitely probably the best of all the 'scene' bands.
I seem to remember reading somewhere recently that they have or will be reforming?

I seem to remember reading somewhere recently that they have or will be reforming? They have played a few gigs lately. I think one was on a Tuesday and one was real late so no chance of seeing them yet. I think they may have a double header with Silvery coming up soon I wanted to put Motorbiking on from the XFM session but it would have sounded gay with the dj introducing it.

THE TIME HAS COME It's hard to surprise Mr British with pieces of his little world, so I've looked a little outwards... It follows the poppy vibe of Dan's one (I'll write a first review soon), just sorry for the lack of ladies, I'm more a manly man myself. 1. Smith Westerns - Weekend -> That riff really works as an into, doesn't it? 2. Cloud Nothings - Talk To Me -> One of his thousand of direct little catchy tunes, sounds like Lee Mavers tbh. 3. The Vines - Orange Amber -> I was meant to put Candy Daze but I didn't have it on the computer, so I stuck this one which works in the same vein. Both underrated pop gems. 4. Fleet Foxes - Mykonos -> Cos you need some foxes in your life and this is as best as it gets... 5. The Sunday Drivers -> Everything Reminds Me Of You -> Nuff' said. 6. Anna Calvi - Blackout -> Dunno if you know her, but I know you like your ladies lovely and fierce. She's both and more. 7. The Replacements - Unsatisfied -> You want more? You'll fuckin' have it! 8. Guided By Voices - Little Whirl -> It has something, don't know exactly what, but it's so addictive for me. 9. The Tallest Man On Earth - Burden Of Tomorrow -> It has become one of my favourite songs ever, I had to put it. 10. Mando Diao - If I Don't Leave Today -> Lovely poppy single by an underrated band. 11. Wilco - You & I -> You have a worrying miss of wilco on your lastfm, and though this is not typical Wilco, it's a perfect love song. 12. The Babies - Meet Me In The City -> Song based on the much-announced-never- date between you and Karl. 13. Wire - Mannequin -> Lalalalalalala oh oh Head to your to find it

Right mix time. Cheers, Jp & Ton. JP, I'm gonna start & hopefully complete your one tonight. Gonna take special care in finding stuff I think you'll like that you won't of heard by sniffing through your lastfm & RYM like I'd broke into your mothers underwear drawers. Clogs, tulips and unequivocal grooves: a mix for mahoneyTracklist: 1. The Durutti Column - Sketch for Summer 2. Mark E. Smith & Ed Blaney - No Retreat 3. Bailter Space - Fascination 4. Relatively Clean Rivers - Journey Through the Valley of O 5. Derroll Adams - Oregon 6. Wizz Jones - One Grain of Sand 7. Spooky Tooth - Waitin' For the Wind 8. Karen Dalton - Something on your Mind 9. Wally Tax - Never Too Far 10. Arthur Alexander - If It's Really got to be This Way 11. James Booker - A Taste of Honey 12. The Outsiders - Do You Feel All Right 13. The Real People - At The End of the Day 14. Drop Nineteens - Winona 15. Latimore - Let's Straighten it Out The Real People track was alright. Kind of dated britpop sound. When I saw them support OCS in about 2003 they had these 2 now songs that sounded just like don't look back in anger fuck knows if they ever came out but they were such anthems. The Outsiders track is a fucking tune! I only know 'Time Won't Let Me' from the nuggets compilation so hopefully they've got more this good. Gonna try and get an album or comp by them if there is any about. Latimore I'd never heard of. Tiny bit cheesey but good chilled out vibes Drop Nineteens I've actually got Delaware but not heard it in ages. I remember this being an absolute tune though. Just checked & it's not in my playlist so I'm gonna have to give Delaware a spin tonight. Arthur Alexander Could imagine Weller covering this one Wall Tax I downloaded The Entertainer after seeing you rated it so highly on RYM, still have not got round to hearing it Will get onto it soon Karen Dalton I only have the 'Its so hard to tell whos going to love you' LP so this track was new to me. For some reason I thought she only ever did one record, liked this very different to the debut. James Booker nice but probably a bit too casual for my taste. Spooky Tooth Had this LP on the pc for many years & never heard it Not bad might finally get around to hearing it. Top vocals Wizz Jones pretty cool hippy/folk. I see you give his Right Now LP 5 stars so I'm gonna grab that. Relatively Clean Rivers + derroll Adams songs were pleasant but never really grabbed me. Bailter Space I'd never heard of. track was a bit short & didn't go anywhere though I dug their style so might try a record out Mark E. Smith and Ed Blaney track was pretty powerful The Durutti Column one of those 'classic' bands I've never really heard much from. I've got the LP it's from on the pc (there is a pattern emerging here). Not sure what I thought of the tune. Will have to try the LP out All in all a pretty good mix & I've found some good stuff I wanna get hold of so nice one. JP's up next.

JP SUPERMIX1; Billy Nichols - Would You Believe?Got the LP this is from & guess what. Never heard it Top tune, as a big fan of the small faces I can't help but dig this. 2; Buck 65 - Blood of a Young WolfI saw Buck at my first Glastonbury & really enjoyed him. This is a good reminder that I need to hear some of his records. 3; Abyssinians - Satta MassaganaThis is another case of our incredible mind energy coming together. I had downloaded a couple of their LP's a few days before you turtleed this compilation. Great tune. 4; Dara Puspita - A Go GoI swear the 'a go go' bit is sampled on a track on the new Go! Team record. Really fucking good tune. It does sound like Vivian Girls....... if vivian girls were any good! 5; Bill Callahan - Diamond DancerWas ok, better than anything on the Smog LP I've heard but didn't really grab me 6; All the Young - ArcaneIf they come up with 10-12 of these they could be the new Twang! (and that is the highest praise) actually, if i heard this on the radio I'd probably of said it was the new Twang song 7; Arthur Russell - A Little LostReminded me of the middle ground of Nick drake & Fleet Foxes. Was ok, didn't really grab my attention though 8; Pen Expers - Valentine Shirtpretty cool. I see they only have about 4 ratings on RYM, obscure! Could you turtle the album for me sometime please? Can't see that one about anywhere 9; James Chance and the Contortions - Contort YourselfSpot on with the Rapture comparison. I've seen the artwork to their 'Buy' record many times, never heard it though so gonna pick that up. 10; The Golden Dawn - My TimeI've got their power plant LP with this tune on. One that I've not got onto hearing yet, definitely will now top tune. 11; Isan - Look and YesReally not my cup of tea at all. Anything that can be classed as IDM (what an awful fucking term) I tend to find completely tedious. I just don't get it at all 12; Lee Moses - Bad Girl pt1Got 2 seconds in and switched it off. Could feel the ear cancer coming in. What a fucking voice! I've got a cover of him doing reach out I'll be there on a soul comp. Gonna have to try and find some more tunes by this guy. edit - seems he only did half a dozen or so singles & an album. Getting a comp that appears to include the lot Nice on brother JP, plenty of records I wanna get hold of thanks to this. A success. Yours will be up before the weekend.

fuck, I've just wasted the whole night making this This should not of taken hours to do. Most the artists you will be familiar with, I've just gone for things that after going through your lastfm it appears you've not heard that come from mostly good albums. so hopefully if you like the tracks you'll wanna try the albums out. That was my logic behind this. No real theme just random tunes so no pacific order for the tracks. AN HOUR OF BROTHER LOVEAcid Casuals - Bowl Me OverCian from SFA's dance side project. This song sounds nothing like the rest of Acid Casuals songs. It has Gruff on vocals and is one of the best SFA related songs ever, Horizen is also a fan. BS2000 - The ScrappyAnother side project, this time from Ad-rock of the Beastie Boys. A fun bouncy number that I absolutely love. Shame about the daft outro. Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band - Sun Zoom Sparkhopefully you've not heard this. It's from Clear Spot which is criminally overlooked because it's not as 'out there' as the rest of the Captain's material. Great song off imo a classic album. Eels - Railway ManAs you've been getting into Eels I thought I'd put my favourite song from the Blinking Lights double album. El Goodo - If I were A SongA band I've seen support SFA a few times. The debut is pretty good, beach boys/J&MC type vibes Ennio Morricone - The Ecstasy Of GoldI've included this because 1. as a reminder that you've still not see The Good, The Bad & The Ugly & 2. It's one of the most remarkable pieces of music I've ever heard. The Exploding Hearts - I'm A PretenderI couldn't find any trace of you listening to these so hopefully it's new to you. Baz is a big fan, such a great, exciting guitar record. Buzzcocks meets the strokes. Frank Black - ThalassocracyHad never tried any of his solo stuff until recently. This was my favourite track from the Teenager Of The Year LP Guided By Voices - fair touchingYou are a much much bigger fan of GBV than I am but recently I got into Isolation Drills which I don't think you've heard. It's a much more polished & 'finished' LP than their more lo-fi early stuff which suits me better. Top album Holly Golightly & The Greenhornes - There Is An EndNot sure if you've ever really bothered with Holly Golightly. She's got a treasure chest of great songs. You've probably heard this track as it's on the Broken Flowers soundtrack but either way, everybody should have some Holly Golightly in their life. Johnny Osbourne - Truth & RightsRecently got into the album of the same name. Brilliant soulful reggae Kevin Burgess - Elias Dread I had to remove 27 tracks to fit it on but fuck it. I noticed you never heard Kev's last album. I'm pretty sure you'd love it. This for me is breathtaking and I still can't believe he wrote this tune. I'm convinced it will turn up on the next Neil Young Archives. Lee Hazlewood - JoseFrom a pretty underrated Hazlewood LP called 'Lee Hazelwoodism, It's Cause And Cure'. One of my favourite songs of his. Very theatrical sounding. Love - Singing CowboyThis is from the Four Sail LP which I'm always banging on about on here. It's disregarded by almost everybody because it's basically Arthur Lee & a new band still under the Love tag & the trademark sound is exchanged for a more conventional guitar driven late 60's sound. Very underrated LP. Smudge - Ugly, Just Like Me & DivianI've included two tracks by Smudge. I've wanted to hear your thoughts on this band for a while. I made Kev download the record though he didn't think much of it. It's basically a more lo-fi sounding version of the Lemonheads. The singer co-wrote two tracks on 'Ray & co-wrote pretty much half of Come On Feel. I'm pretty confident you'll dig their Manilow LP VideoGame Orchestra - Island In The Sun (Belmont's Revisal)& to finish it off, a Nintendo cover of a Weezer track. I've no reason for including this other than it makes me smile.
