Žižek! - 8/10 "Zizek!" is a feature documentary exploring the eccentric personality and esoteric work of the "wild man of theory": the eminent Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek. Zizek! trails the thinker as he crisscrosses the globe, racing from New York City lecture halls, through the streets of Buenos Aires, and even stopping at home in Ljubljana, Slovenia. All the while Zizek obsessively reveals the invisible workings of ideology through his unique blend of Lacanian psychoanalysis, Marxism, and critique of pop culture. Never ceasing to observe the paradoxes that underpin our perception of reality, little goes untheorized over the course of the film, particularly Zizek's recurring themes -- ideology, belief, revolution, and love. But Zizek is also unafraid to turn his critical gaze on himself, astutely analyzing his private life for the camera and contemplating on his conflicted relationship to his growing celebrity. Erudite and outrageous, mixing innovative animations with uncensored interviews, "Zizek!" is both an unforgettable lesson in philosophy and a compelling portrait of an intellectual maverick.

Louis Theroux - Law & Disorder: Lagos - 6/10 Enjoyable but ultimately a bit unsatisfying. It's unfortunate but the more hardcore the subject matter he tries to cover the more difficult it is to get to the core of the situation. We are all obviously aware of the corruption that exists but he did very little to give us an incisive view into the inner workings of the Area Boys that run the streets of Lagos. I did feel like he was going to get himself killed on several occasions too, he's certainly not lost his knack for what he does, he just needs to find an issue that is actually possible to cover.

couldn't agree more with that synopsis andy. it still makes for interesting viewing but doesn't really tell us anything we don't already know. i love mr theroux but think he'd be better served going back to the minutiae of stuff like faded celebs or rap music or whatever, as he can actually bring out some real insights from that source material.

The Room. Consistently ranked as one of the worst films of the last fifteen years. It is legendaryI'm not quite sure yet which scenes are my favorite, so here is a five minute compilation of most of the best. It's truly incredible I did naht hit hurr, it's naht true, it's bowl shit, i iid naht hit hurr!!! I DID NAAAHT... Oh hi Mark. The flower buying scene, it's like everyone read their lines in reverse order. The fact that none of the dubbing is even remotely close to the lips moving. Oh "and I got the results of the tests back!! I definitely have breast cancer " This film is truly an 8/10. cliche so bad that it's good type stuff.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (remake)
Opening credits 9/10
Everything after 3/10
What a load of shit. At least Freddy vs Jason was so over the top it was entertaining. This wasn't scary, wasn't intense, and wasn't even funny.. It shouldn't even exist.

La casa con la scala nel buio [1983] Later Giallo, wasn't great, felt a bit silly at times though didn't help it was a dubbed version. 5 Tutti i colori del buio [All the Colors of the Dark] [1972] This one was much better, wonderfully shot & well paced. 7.5 Una lucertola con la pelle di donna [Lizard in a Woman's Skin] [1971] Bit too stylish for it's own good, was trippy as hell in places, not bad though. 6 Foxy Brown [1974] Wasn't as kickarse as I thought it would be. Was still good but lacked the punch of Coffy 7

I havent got a fucking clue out of ten. its the strangest film I've ever seen, theres a lot to hate about it (theres very little of a story going on and not very much acting happening in the 2 and a half hours it runs for - and the UK version has had a 20 minute section near the end chopped out) and a lot to love about it, such as the strangest and most original cinematography in any film, ever. plus it features the maddest cumshot in history, which I'm certain is the first ever cumshot I've seen on a cinema screen.

Yeah joanne's alright at times, bit of a mouthy cunt but I liked when she said "He basically called me a gobshite" and she's generally pretty good. Should just cut down on being so argumentative and abrasive. Stella did fantastic this week I thought. They really worked well together tbh. Laura is fucking fit. Shit teeth though. Liz'd get a length too ffs.

Classic Apprentice last night.
Both teams are so fucking shit. The guy who delivered the towel blurb was amazingly shit and only topped by the podgy Brent-ite who speaks utter bollox 24/7. They should get rid of the mouthy girls and just leave the fit ones tbh. The bikini model is delightful.
I got a feeling this series is going to be vintage.

The Devils [1971] Ken Russell film staring Oliver Reed, I enjoyed it & the performances were all superb but I just didn't connect with the story for some reason. Left me feeling a bit emotionless to it all though could be something that would perhaps grow with repeat viewings. 6 Pyschomania [1973] Pretty shit British biker/horror film 4

La tarantola dal ventre nero [The Black Belly of the Tarantula] [1971] One of the best Giallo's I've seen, wasn't perfect, there was far too many scenes that seemed out of place like they'd find a clue that you thought was leading to the killer but actually had fuck all to do with anything & wouldn't be mentioned again but still was really enjoyable, looked great and Ringo Starr's mrs gets stabbed to pieces. 8
