what a great film. highly recommended, its a great laugh and fun and entertaining blablablablabla... watch it 8.5/10 would i be right in thinking this is an indie film about dysfunctional families? because films of this ilk all seem to have the same covers or posters - all childlike and cartooney and bubbly.

Miesten vuoro (I think it's called Steam of Life in english) 8/10
it's a documentary where finnish men talk about their private things while sitting in a sauna. lots of crying, lots of sad stories. it's rather heavy to watch someone sit there naked steaming his ass off and then talk about the death of his two year old daughter. highlight was this guy whose best friend is a motherfucking bear and then the bear smashes a table while looking really happy. also the ending with the various people singing this old traditional finnish song and then this choir of old men joined them and it was quite powerful and i cried a bit (lol)
definitely recommended.
oh and mongos talking about wearing a bikini was awesome too
edit: you can download it with english subtitles from demonoid

Shia LeBeouf is great as a comedy actor, that's how he began and that's his strength IMO; they're cleaning him up and turning him into a leading drama man, and it obviously clashes with his comedy roots, that's why he seems like a cunt. I quite like him though, I think he's going to be a great thing later on in life.

Yeah I like Shia. I think he's a decent enough actor. Some of his real life antics are funny too. I don't understand all the hate. It all started with Transformers, and that movie is Michael Bay's fault, not his.

Paranormal Activity 2
I think the first Paranormal Activity is one of the best horror movies OF ALL TIME. I know that sounds sarcastic, but I'm being serious. It is one of the few horror movies that had me on the edge of my seat throughout two thirds of it, and it genuinely freaked me out for a few days after seeing it.
As for the sequel.. It was good actually. As a horror movie it stands on it's own quite well. In some ways it fixed things that were wrong in the first one. The family is quite likeable and the fact that they have a baby and the coolest dog ever makes you genuinely care about what happens to them. Plus I liked the character of the Dad because up until the very end of the movie I felt he was the most "realistic" of any of them. The acting was fairly solid. Nothing special, a few off moments, but nothing to detract from the movie.
Unfortunately, this movie kinda gets a lot wrong in comparison to the first one too. Like any sequel, they tried to outdo themselves in some of the stuff that went down. The problem is, the strength of the first one was that it was pretty understated. That, to me at least, is what made it so creepy. There's one scene in particular that really didn't come off well, which is a shame because there was a similar scene in the first one, and it was one of the highlights of the first movie for me. They also made an effort to explain why everything is happening in the sequel. This was entirely unneeded. The fact that you didn't know why any of this was going on made the first one ten times creepier. Having a supernatural creature messing with you without any goals or motives makes it seem a lot more menacing. When you give something an agenda, it also gives you an idea of what is going to happen next, and thus removes some of the suspense. That leads to my final problem with the movie... In the first movie, you got a real sense that Katie and Micah were being toyed with. Some of the things that happened to them served no purpose other than to mess with their heads. Like I mentioned earlier, there seemed to be no agenda. Instead, it was just a game to the entity. This ramped up the tension. I never got the feeling that the family in the sequel was really being toyed with. It was something that could have improved the movie greatly.
You'll notice that pretty much every negative aspect about the sequel only exists because I am comparing it to the first movie. This is why it's actually still a good horror movie even if it's not as good as the first one. It's definitely worth seeing, and I highly recommend seeing it in the theatre where the sound system can really do it justice. Just make sure you've seen the first Paranormal Activity before seeing the second.
7/10
(The first Paranormal Activity is a 9/10)
