Drama/Mex 7/10 What is it about? I really fucking love Mexican cinema, probably the best in Latin America, isn't it? [025] Live Forever: the Rise and Fall of BritpopOverall I found it's a very superficial documentary, didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know, in fact, I think I could find more info about that time period by asking on this forum or browsing Wikipedia. Highlights were definitely every time Liam opened his fookin' mouth, that whole androgyny thing was funny as fuck, that man is a fucking hero. ;D Also Damon Albarn is a nipple, a N-I-P-P-L-E! 6/10 [026] The Iron GiantInspired by my own post in the CGI thread I decided to give this one a watch after many years. I cried like a fucking widow, let's leave it at that. It's probably my favorite animated film of all time; downside: it's too short FFS. When I have a kid this is going to be on repeat, I'm sure. 9/10

Ana Maria, it is pretty much heartbreak and the pain of it, the title pretty much tells you what the deal is, and as the poster indicates "your misery is my joy" that woman is wicked.

Ana Maria,

Your typical swedish flick. It is nicely shot, beautiful, pretty good acting but as in most cases you lack the everlasting personal touch. Some nice wife beating in it as the times were like that back then, in the beginning of the 20th century (and still is I suppose). A nice little story about a woman who stood up for herself in some way, but, spoiler coming up unhidden because i don't think you´ll watch t anyway, I will never figure out why women don't kill more men. Alas, a pretty good story. 6/10

Cool World (1992)
"Cool World is a 1992 American live-action-animated film directed by Ralph Bakshi, and starring Kim Basinger, Gabriel Byrne, and Brad Pitt. It tells the story of a cartoonist who finds himself in the animated world he created, and is seduced by one of his characters, a comic strip vamp who wants to be real."
Pretty poor narrative/story, but the animation and designs are great.
6.5/10.

Whip ItNot that exciting and a run of the mill sort of late teen comedy/drama but gets one point extra for getting me excited to see some roller derbys in real. 6/10

Harry Brown 8/10 Michael Caine plays an ex marine pensioner that goes on a vigilante quest against a bunch of neds/hoodies on his estate. Think British version of Gran Torino except Caine does the job properly. Really enjoyed it and really wished it was a true story the 'baddies' are horrible wee cunts, Caine is excellent in the role. The female police is bloody annoying though. Enjoyable film imo

[027] True Grit (2010)Ok first of all, that poster, why is Josh Brolin on there? He's barely in 5 minutes of the entire film? Silly marketing ploy . Anyway I thought this film lacked substance, pretty superficial and I didn't really feel anything for any of the characters, bar Matt Damon's for his dead pan delivery, but even he had some flaws. I don't know, this is not the best of the Coens' efforts, definitely prefer their last one, A serious Man, that's the kind of humour they seem to be best at. 5/10

[028] Groundhog DayGreat performance by Bill Murray, as can be expected, a few geniune laugh out loud moments with his delivery. All in all it's a very likeable little film, but is Andy MacDowell the dullest, worst actress of the 90's? Every time the camera's on her I wanted to punch myself. Awful woman. 7/10 [029] Moon (2009)Why isn't Sam Rockwell more famous than George Clooney by now? He's an amazing actor AND apparently, through the viewing of this film, he seems to have a tremendous arse. Anyway, I thought my existence was hopeless and useless, and then I saw this movie. heh. 7.5/10 [030] BrazilUghhh what a drag it was to sit through ~2.5 hours of this! I generally enjoy Terry Gilliam, even though his films always have this theatrical feel, and I had seen Brazil before on my first term of Uni, but I suppose I was different back then cause I liked it, but not this time. Funny how the perception of a film can change over time through our own experiences... Anyway despite its 1984-ish undertones (1984 is my favorite book), overall good performance and interesting set designs, I have to give this "classic" a 6.5/10

If it's everything 'A Serious Man' wasn't then i'm even more excited about it. The King's SpeechIt was a toss up between this and 'The Green Hornet' so i consulted with IMDB and decided to go to see 'The King's Speech', plus i have a lot of man love for Colin Firth. I've been a fan of his since 'Fever Pitch'. Anyway all the hype about Oscar's etc is well deserved he was brilliant in it, as were Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham-Carter. Timothy Spall as Churchill was inspired as well and Guy Pearce was brilliant too, infact everyone in it was fantastic. The story was uplifting, inspiring, funny and tinged with sadness, it looks fantastic and leaves you feeling warm inside. Highly recommended. 8/10

Yeah I just saw that at the cinema too, Johnny. Pretty much the exact same thoughts about it as you. It was beautifully done and charming throughout. Firth and Rush were great, as was everyone else. Really enjoyed it. Hope it does well at the Oscars
8.6/10
There are a load of films I want to see that are out or coming out soon!

#25 Starship Troopers [1997] What a mess of a film. I remember it from when it came out but watching back now it just seems ridiculous. I'm not sure if Verhoeven was actually having a laugh with it or taking it seriously, I changed my mind at least 20 times during the film. The effects look so dated & the casting off those horrible mid 90's clean youngsters made the film even more silly than it should of been. I'm not sure what the intention was with this movie or if it is just a reflection of the time it was made. Entertaining yet not very good. 5 #26 127 Hours [2011] Didn't fancy that Kings Speech so saw the new Danny Boyle film instead. A simple story handled well. He's trapped under the rock within 20 minutes of the film so Boyle did well to keep the film engaging for an hour with one actor stuck in one location. Soundtrack was surprisingly poor for a Boyle movie & perhaps one too many flashy camera scenes but I guess that was needed to try and keep the attention span during the guys lengthy ordeal. Won't go down as one of Boyle's best works but once again he's shown he can take on a completely different genre to what he's attempted before and succeed with it. 7.75

See I know it's a satire, thats all anybody ever mentions about Starship Troopers as if it explains the whole film but for me it feels like he decided to make a satire & the studio decided they wanted a serious sci-fi action film. It swings from one to the other almost from one scene to another. Probably the reason why he did very little after this, probably been blacklisted. Either way it's a great big mess of a film.

This Is Spinal Tap (1984) I'm not sure why I've avoided this for so long. Always seemed to me as something I wouldn't enjoy. I think Rob Reiner is a fat prick. But it is brilliant. Michael McKean is officially a Don. "I envy us." 8/10
