Is she worth the statue in the end? Planning on seeing the movie this weekend but would be interesting to hear what you think. Even those who don't really fancy the movie.
By the way, that Rapace is up against her in the BAFTA is a fucking joke. I can say that already without even having seen Portman yet.

I've no idea. I've always found peoples fascination & opinions on who should win what Oscar a little strange as 90% of the time the people discussing it won't of seen all the nominations. It's a brave performance, one where she has obviously had to put alot of dedication and preparation into performing the part & one where the entire film relies on Portman being believable otherwise it would be a complete failure. She definitely deserves most the praise she is receiving for this part.

[045] The ChaseI hated everyone else bar Brando and Redford; jeez, all those townpeople made me want to punch myself. It dragged at times and I got really distracted while watching it, did about a million things in between and stopped it like 800 times. 5/10 [046] I'm Still HereFimally got aruond to watching this; I laughed my ass off tbh. I think 'JP' (as he calls himself here) was tremendous, what a great performance, you could actually believe all this was true if you hadn't heard it wasn't. Funny as hell. 7/10 [047] There Will Be BloodI think this film would've been miles better if the story didn't dance around all over the place, I felt that was kind of disrespectful to the audience. I couldn't connect to anyone in this film, and that's a major problem for me when it comes to film--if I don't connect, I'll be distracted as fuck and not bothered. So yeah. I had nightmares all night after watching it . I couldn't also buy the fact that that weird freaky priest guy didn't age 20 years passed and he's still looked as young as Blain's foreskin. 6/10

jakester, what did lesbians ever do to you? A girl I loved bunches left me then got together with one the most rotten females I've ever encountered. But my hate for them on here is for joke really. I happen to be pretty close with a couple that I stay with in New York. They rock. So ya. My hatred is just for a giggle.

Black Swan - 8.5/10 Always liked Darren Aronofsky and Natalie Portman, which helped when it came to persuading myself to watch this because obviously ballet isn't exactly something I know much about or am particularly interested in. But luckily the film carried itself perfectly, I thought. I didn't feel my attention slipping at all, largely due to Natalie Portman's fantastic job as Nina. Pleased I finally watched it and it wasn't complete garbage after all the hype. Also, Clint Mansell deserves a mention for the excellent soundtrack.

#46 Telefon (1977) This one hasn't aged very well. Bronson plays a Russian spy though doesn't even bother to sound Russian in the slightest. Was also asked to remove his tash for the part to which he replied 'No mustache, No Bronson' . Might of enjoyed it more had I seen a better print of the film. 5

Bronson sounds like a true legend, I don't think I've ever seen any of his films. Which one do you recommend me Karl? [048] The StingOk yeah I can see the appeal of this film: IT'S FUCKING AWESOME. not enough Newman though, although those suits Redford wears more than make up for it . Robert Shaw is incredible in this, as good as a 'villain' might get (even though he's not that bad is he? he's pretty softcore for a villain). Anyway I enjoyed this but since there was no scene comparing to a bike scene from Butch, I'll say that one still wins. 8.5/10 [049] Cool Hand LukeI loved this film when I was in high school but somehow I always forget about it when listing my favorite films, probably cause I hadn't watched it since. Well, this man is the fucking bollocks. This is still my favorite Newman film, I gotta say (but that bike scene in Butch is capturing my every dream). 9/10

Bronson sounds like a true legend, I don't think I've ever seen any of his films. Which one do you recommend me Karl? His defining performance is as 'Harmonica' in Once Upon a Time in the West which is an alltime favourite of mine. He's also in a few classic films such as The Great Escape, The Dirty Dozen & The Magnificent Seven, he's great in all three but wasn't the star of those pictures. He's most known for his vigilante/crime films which in most cases are all exactly the same where he plays pretty much the same character, if you try one of these & like it you'll forever be a Bronson fan. If you try one & you aren't fussed then Bronson won't be for you though the films I mentioned above are classics with or without Bronson. Typical Bronson films are Death Wish, The Mechanic, Death Hunt, 10 to Midnight & Cold Sweat. There are fucking tons of others though those are my favourites. I have a dream to see every film Bronson has ever been in though he has near 100 credits to his name. The two films you just watched I've owned on DVD for almost three years now and seem neither. I'll get round to it soon. Another good Paul Newman film that you may not of seen is the Hustler where he gives an iconic performance. The Wanderers was a favourite film of mine as a child, used to watch it all the time & there was a scene with a bowling ball with the line 'if it's good enough for Paul Newman, it's good enough for you', I had no idea who the fuck Paul Newman was then but when I watched the Hustler a year or two back I finally understood that scene. #47 Desperado (1995) RodrÃguez shoots action so well. At times it felt like I was watching a John Woo film. A cool cast with Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, Tarantino & a great performance by Steve Buscemi though all these are killed off by midway through which was a shame for me. I ended up liking Antonio Banderas alot more than I thought I would in this. A few times he felt a little emotionless but overall he won me over. 8.5 #48 Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex * But Were Afraid to Ask (1972) Another Woody Allen film I don't like. The jokes just feel so dated, perhaps was seen as a bit edgy at the time with its subject matter but nowadays it feels completely tame. There must be a gag every minute yet none which I found particularly amusing. Also I can't stand Allen's smart-ass humour especially in the opening sketch. Got a few more in the boxset I bought so I'll check them out but I can't see myself warming to his films. 4
