 I love that Metronomy record The singer has a voice that makes a lot of people want to smash his face in but if you can get past that it is a very rewarding record. It's an album that has a nice flow to it to, it speeds up and slows down in just the right places. It's also got a good mixture of quirky synths and solid bass and unlike other Metronomy releases, it has much improved lyrics and production. It's gunna be high on my list anyway.

definitely not enough music that encourages me to happily punch a hole in a wall. i wish there were more proper singers that sang like a gun was pointed to their head these days. too many yawners ya know

It is probably in my top 10 and it took me a good week to realize how much i actually liked it as singers who sound like they just swallowed a helicopter are usually a bit too much for me. saw them live this year too. it was absolutely bonkers. damian is the waldo/sandman (from ecw) of lead singing.

Good observation rounder, I agree completely. Kurt Vile for example is wanked over in most quarters these days, but I can't get past how awful his voice is. I'm not asking for a classically trained singer mind. But he's purposefully singing like he's just been hit in the stomach with an iron bar. I just can't get on board with it.
Regarding that Rough Trade list - Veronica Falls that high? I don't think so. Their album is very patchy.
Also another example of an English record company maintaining the belief that the only music released in the whole of Scotland worth caring about is by King Creosote or his ""Fence Collective"" bretheren. Pish.

Really haven't listened to a lot of new music this year, just been occupied with other stuff really, mainly watching a lot more films, but a quick skim through my ipod, it seems I've actually listened to a lot more than I thought I had, so I'm gonna spend the next couple of weeks really listening back through stuff from this year and picking up the odd album here an there, I think I have a pretty definitive top 10 though but there is a fair amount of stuff that i've only given the odd listen too that could grow on me.

with regards to the veronica falls lp, it was one of my most highly anticipated releases of the year and initially i was a bit disappointed with it. however on repeated listens ive really grown to love it and its certainly in with a good shout of making my top 10.

Pish. Yep. While I like some of what Vile has put out but I don't think "oh fuck!!!It Vile The Guile" Cant get enough of this!! FUCKING PORTAY!!! Imma turn the knobs to 11. I can only take bands with average vocalists who lack beyond killer tunes to a certain extent. He surely is going to show up high in loads of magazine/website end of the year lists. I think Pitchfork gave it like an 8.5 I think. they are complete cocks. if beady eye made the same album itd be called "simplistic" and rated a five and they know thats true. Im amazed at some of what a large portion of internet indie webs get overly excited about. Fucking dubstep? It sounds like being stuck at a red light next to a car from the 1990s with a shit stereo system at full blast. Ive listened to more music this year probably than any other year and I think this year has been a bit of a letdown. Come the 15thish though you guys will probably just tell you hope malaria and AIDS row down my ear canals and into my brain |
