WHERES THE BORN TO RUN WRITEUP KEVIN? ? So I've spent a few weeks with Born To Run & here's my thoughts. I love it up & including born to run. That 5 track run is fucking amazing. Unfortunately the next two tracks I'm not that keen on. She's the one reminds me of meatloaf for some reason I really like Jungleland until that extended Sax solo, all I can think of is 80's porn & doing a 4 minute cum shot over a bird with a massive perm when I hear it. I'm learning to love the Sax but this Sax solo is taking the piss. It's bordering on baker street which is my most hated song of all time. BUT Born to run, the song... I think it is now my favourite song ever no seriously Theres just so many moments I want to fist the sky. Anyway, I'm slightly disappointed in a way as from what I'd read and been told Born To Run would blast his first two records out of the water when for me I think each one has got a tiny bit better but I was hoping for a giant leap but instead just a small step forward but either way, quality record. Also, I really like this quote from the allmusic review, I think it's pretty much spot on The overall theme of the album was similar to that of The E Street Shuffle; Springsteen was describing, and saying farewell to, a romanticized teenage street life. But where he had been affectionate, even humorous before, he was becoming increasingly bitter. If Springsteen had celebrated his dead-end kids on his first album and viewed them nostalgically on his second, on his third he seemed to despise their failure, perhaps because he was beginning to fear he was trapped himself.

Yes, come on Kevin. You can't write two such great posts and then leave it when it's starting to get interesting! Karl: Are you planning on seeing him when he comes this summer? I didn't really like Jungeland all that much either before I saw it live. Then it just clicked and everything about it feels magnificent everytime I hear it now, 10 years down the road from when I heard it live. But I guess it's very, very unlikely you'll hear it now with Clarence dead. Have you given Darkness..., The River and (especially) Nebraska any spins yet? Or are you really taking it step by step? I rank all those albums higher than Born To Run.

Step by step my friend. Darkness will be my next stop. I quite fancy seeing him this summer but I don't fancy paying for it Should of seen him at Glastonbury the year Neil Young played. Think I ended up seeing 2manyDJ's play the exact same set they had done at Brixton a few weeks before so I fucked up there. Mind you I wasn't into his music then. Hopefully will catch him one day though I doubt he'll ever play a venue I'll be happy with so I should just bite the bullet and go this summer. Kevin, fuck you man!

If one artist on this earth is worth your hard-earned money Karl, it's Sprinsgteen. I get what you mean with the venue though. But he's a two-venue artist. Either you see him in a big stadium or if he's in his more dark and acoustic mood, a little intimate venue. It's been a tendency to the big venues the last decade and I am eagerly awaiting the small venue-Springsteen to arrive again. Having said that, big venue-Springsteen is something to behold and experience. It's a three hour full on assault. And a man who manage to melt the Swedish crowds and make them act like Travoltas in the 70s is worthy of all respect. Come to think of it, I have two tickets to his second Göteborg-date (which happens to be the final gig on the European tour) this summer. Still haven't gotten a confirmation on anyone to go with me. If it's still free later on, you should time a visit to your girlfriend and tag along. Or in any case, buy a ticket for you and your missus to enjoy some Springsteen on Swedish soil. You won't believe your eyes, I promise you.

she lives in Seven Sisters mate I'll look nearer the time at the TCOTU date. Sold out for now but would be easy enough to get a ticket should I decide to go.

Good for her If you are doing it step by step I would recommend that you take a listen to the Hammersmith '75 live album before moving on. Absolutely fantastic sound quality and some great versions on it pre-Darkness.

I've watched huge chunks of it on youtube. I might download it and watch it through my TV so I can get a boner over the Boss's golden earing.

New album leaked. Can't wait to get home to listen to them through my lovely headphones. I guess with the pace Krburg is writing his posts in this thread we will read about Nebraska when Wrecking Ball has been out for 10 years.

In the meantime... what did you think of Darkness?
The title song is most of the time my favourite Springsteen song.

In the meantime... what did you think of Darkness? The title song is most of the time my favourite Springsteen song. For me it was a step down in terms of quality from his first three records. There's a few moments where the fist waving cheesefest what I feared initially about listening to him came through especially on Prove It All Night. Theres some great stuff on there though, I dig Adam Raised A Cain, Candy's Room, The Promised Land & the title track. Definitely a good record, I just preferred his first three more.

I've got up to Tunnel of Love - should I be wary from this point onward? There will be no album that keeps up the high standard, but there are lots of songs to be found here and there that are among the best he's made. So definitely worth keeping on. Also don't miss out on the Tracks cds. Lots of great stuff there too.

Yeah, I've always skipped Prove It All Night. Can't stand it. It's actually better live though. Will be very interesting to hear your thoughts about The River. Think he manages to handle his fist-waving tendencies better on that record but as it's a double album you have more to take in. The Ties That Bind and such..but for every song like that you get Drive All Night. So it's worth it. And then the biggest masterpiece of them all, Nebraska. If you are afraid of cheesefests... this will be your nirvana. Nothing of that for miles and miles on the record. If you have the chance (and this will sound cheesy, if any) try and listen to it for the first time late at night with headphones and nothing to disturb you. It's going to blow your mind.
