Awesome line up from my point of view (if I was going) , but when the fuck did the roses become anything near big enough in the USA to headline Coachella? Also like I said in the Primavera thread, had no idea Phoenix were this big. Also interesting Nick Cave is playing twice, once with Grinderman on the Friday and then with the Bad Seeds on Sunday.

Yeah, same thing about Phoenix. Off to the Primavera thread, though.

Coachella has become a huge monster. Getting tickets is harder than Orch's penis near underage girls.

Weird I thought Nick Cave had put an end to Grinderman for good.

whoarethestoneroses.tumblr.com/ I can't see them going down well in front of a huge crowd, most people will not be fans. If Ian Brown has an off day there isn't going to be 50,000 people to cover it up like he'd normally get. I know Hooky is missing but a band like New Order have been successful in the states for years & despite them being a bit of a joke right now I bet they'd go down much better than the Roses as headliners.

For their encore I hear New Order are going to use a Ian Curtis Hologram.

They'd dig him up from under the ground if it made them money.

Blur had success with song2 and toured on a regular basis and established a fan base. What was left of the stone roses turned up in America when they were finished. Blur are in a much better position states wise than the Roses are.
Though I would like to add, THE THE FUCK LIKES PHOENIX? I think I saw them at V festival once, they were shit.

This is a contradiction. I'm sorry, but if you don't know who The Stone Roses (or any headliner, really) are, then you shouldn't be at Coachella. I'm rattled, you guys, a bunch of stupid Americans will get to see the Roses and not me.

TBH I can completely understand huge chunks of the Coachella crowd not being arsed/or knowing about the Stone Roses.
Many people going to the festival will not be in their 30's. Out of all the none European people we have here, almost all would of only found the Roses through Oasis and the majority of none European Roses fans in the world will be 30+ so from a different era to a huge percentage of the Coachella crowd. Why should a 18-24 year old living in the states who's grown up with their favourite bands as Radiohead, or Kayne West or Arcade fire really know or care who the stone roses are? They never did enough to justify being a household name in the states. for me it is like going to someone on here 'OMG you haven't heard the Vaselines first album? you are shit, you know nothing' & so on.
I don't really have a clue who Phoenix are, I couldn't name a single song by them despite me thinking I saw them at a festival once and they was shit but I can't be sure. Does that mean I am an awful cunt if they are headlining the other stage at Glastonbury?
People have got to remember that age wise & musical trends we are becoming irrelevant. Why should an 18 year old in the states who's going to his/her first festival give a fuck about a bunch of 50 year old blokes who did one good album 20 odd years ago that wasn't even very successful in the states?
Because I cold tell you now, when I went to my first festival I couldn't of given a fuck if Pavement, the New York Dolls & Dinosaur Jr were playing that year as I would of seen The Rapture, Electric Soft Parade & Andrew WK because that would of been what we heard on the radio at the time, thats what we would of heard at the shit indie disco on a saturday night & that is what me and my friends would of been more into that at the time.

I guess what I am trying to say is that not everybody has an encyclopedic knowledge of indie-rock/alternative music of the past 40 years, it takes time to discover different bands from different eras. Certain new bands will lead you to other bands, older bands but you can't expect people under the age of 25 to know about every worthwhile act that has ever existed. There are MANY people on here that had Pixies been announced at a festival when they were 17 or 18 would of gone to see Cast or Ocean Colour Scene instead, me included. I think in this internet age people expect everybody to know about everything but I can remember being completely clueless about many 'essential' bands & even to this day I am discovering bands and acts I felt I should of heard or been into a long time ago.
People should stop pretending they are so cooler than everybody else, festivals are just as much for people wanting to get away with their friends & have a good time than it is about who likes what band, the snobbery towards festival goers by most 'music' fans I find ridiculous. I'll go Glastonbury again this year, it probably won't have a great lineup & I will end up seeing bands I'm not too bothered about surrounded by people that don't have anywhere near as much interest in music as me but I will still have a good time.
I fell asleep on the floor to the sounds of the kaizer chiefs when Sonic Youth were playing V festival one year. The next year I saw Girls aloud instead of Beck. I saw Beck a week later and he was no way as good as Girls Aloud, suck it up snobs.

What a load of shit. When I find out a band is headlining a festival and I don't know them I would first ask myself why I don't know them, instead of making a complete and utter fucktard out of myself on twitter or something like that. It's not that because of a bunch of American knobs don't know about The Stone Roses, they're not a big and highly influential band. Do a bit of fucking research...
If you go to a convention, you first check out what the convention is about and what stand there are. It's also not that you can't actually enjoy the musicians and have a good time. Getting pissed while watching good bands, there's nothing better than that. You're missing the point entirely when you think it's about feeling better than other people, or cooler, or whatever. It's about the complete lack of interest and desire to develop in any sense that makes most festivals a meeting of utter dickheads that just want to be entertained by a bunch of retarded capitalist million dollar business record labels who decide what they listen and don't listen. Think for yourself, for fucks sake.

Stone roses really arent headline material anyways. Headlining bands should play for something like 2 hours. Roses have enough good songs to fill the first hour. After that it's gonna be painful to everyone apart from the liam gallaghers in the crowd
