if that's what you thought of the last few you'll probably have a similar opinion on this tbh. i actually preferred the records rob pollard released under his own name to the gbv one last year but still he's someone i'll always be excited to check out a new release by even if there are about 6 a year.

I'll give it a go, always find something worthwhile even if Pollard is still no doubt ripping off Connections!

The new Sun Kil Moon album is the best I've heard this year by a distance. Not had much competition so far tbf

In all seriousness, I've not checked out much from this year so far. Was quite looking forward to the new Maximo Park record after hearing Brain Cells but after 2 or 3 spins, it's not really grabbing me. Gave Beck a listen this morning and it sounds like it could be pretty decent.
Going to have a browse through this thread to see what people are enjoying and give them a go.

Angel Olsen's 'Burn Your Fire For No Witness' leaked on Exy in December but is due for release next week and it's incredible. Her voice is so beautiful, a friend is putting her on in Belfast so I can't wait to see her live in the next few months.

Had been meaning to recommend her to you JP. Been listening to her for the past week or so & thought it was something that you'd like. Personally I'm not overwhelmed by her but theirs a couple of excellent tracks on there.

The new Beck record really is wonderful. I didn't care for it on first listen & it felt to me as if it was half-arsed (especially for a first record in six years) but my god have these songs slowly crept under my skin. I love how restrained the record is & I don't know if it's just me, but the record gets better as it goes on. That harmonica solo in "Country Down" is just golden, I kind of wish there was more of that on the record. I'm surprised how much this has grown on me, I'd go as far as to say that this is one of the best records he's ever made.
He's supposed to have a more upbeat record out later in the year that's recorded with a bunch of session musicians that worked on Jacko's Thriller, hope it's like a Midnite Vultures part II kind of deal.

I think it is a nice record but it still pales in comparison with Sea Change. It seems "less sad", like the hangover morning after the breakup.

Was worried when I heard that the Horrors were bringing in the synths for the new record but that is fucking excellent.
