It's decent but all their songs sound the same to me. I'd imagine those songs would be fun live but I'm not too fussed about the record.

Agree, but at least it's more about the songs this time, their previous one was too serious, angsty and self-conscious. This time they pull some amazing guitar moments.

Something I've been LOVING is "oddments" by Australian band "King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard". Now I know they sound like one of those made up bands HEHE makes up but jesus christ are they addictive. It reminds me of the eclectic mishmash that the Go! Team did - though where as the Go! Team used Hip-Hop as their spring board King Gizzard uses Psych-pop/garage-rock. There's all different types of tunes from trippy ballads to freak-outs to 17 second pieces of chaos. Sounds like what I'd imagine The Black Lips to sound like if they collaborated with The Flaming Lips. Stream kinggizzardandthelizardwizard.com/Albums on Exy too. A guy whose opinion I respect from RYM says this is a kind of compilation with rarities from the last two years, and no way as good as their release from last year. I haven't listened to any of them, but I thought you may be interested.

Thanks Barny. Will have to dig back further. I remember their last album being on Exy & listening to a track or two on youtube but it couldn't have caught my imagination at the time but if anything they've done is as good as Oddments I'll be onto a winner.
I'm already trying to spend time with past releases from The Hold Steady, St. Vincent, Kurt Vile & Bill Callahan, there's not enough hours in the day.

Todd Terje's "It's album time" I am in love with. It's a space disco/nu-disco type deal. Sounds like if James Murphy made a record with John Carpenter. Sounds phenomenal in the sunshine. Definitely one of my favourites of the year even if there are a couple of numbers on there that I'm not too sure about.
Also Neville Skelly has a new record out. I never bothered with his first one but his new record "Carousel" is wonderful. It occasionally treads along the middle of the road yet still continues to win me over. It sounds like a lost singer/songwriter record from the early 70s. I can hear bits of Van Morrison, Jackson C. Frank with a couple of numbers sounding like a stripped down Arthur Lee. Really lovely record.
I'm a bit behind but today had my first listens to the latest Sun Kil Moon & Damien Jurado records and first impressions that I'm going to really like both of them. Really enjoying miserable singer-songwriter crap at the moment.

The sun kil moon album is sublime- the damien jurado didn't grab me anything like his last.
I hate the idea of Todd Terje album and I've heard mixed things about it, but a couple of people who's taste I trust have said they love it so I shall open my mind and give it a shot.

I gathered that you'd be a fan. His music isn't a million miles away from what you are making now I'll check that link out.

Yep, just like The Men, each record is just slightly different than its predecessor but still there are enough variations to enjoy them and both are actually building a remarkable trajectory.

More modern classics! With the new track 'brand new car', which is totally different from Modern classics, with the new track 'brand new start'!. Just wait until 2025 when more more modern classics comes out with the new track 'brand new idea'!
I'm probably still going to buy this, aren't I?

Ha I'm glad he's doing this rather than releasing a new best of that covers his whole solo career as modern classics got that periods best work pretty much spot on.
Album of the year!

Yeah, halluciengeneicniac was alright and As Is Now was GOOD before the proper comeback of being proper big. The album cover is mega too. Fuck you SRK.

I never liked As Is Now, it's the one everyone seems to like & call a great comeback but I thought it was kind of weak. Illumination & the covers record were mostly poor but his last three & Heliocentric are all top notch. On top of that some cool B-sides/stand alone singles & an EP + that collaboration with Coxon.. probably going to be the ALBUM OF THE CENTURY.
Though I don't like the fact it's a 2CD job, should have just been a single CD with the cream on there.
That reminds me, about time I brought a new best of The Jesus Abyss about.

I think it *is* a 1CD disc, with a 3disc "deluxe edition"...more random songs on disc2 and a live disc of random stuff.
As is now had great singles and a great 1st half, but the 2nd half is pretty poo. Says something that there's only 1 track off illumination and the covers disc on it. And I still kind of hate sonik kicks.
