So for the new Libertines album they're going with a producer whose worked with Ed Sheeran, One Direction & Paloma Faith.
How odd.

Been listening to that fireworks record, I'M GLAD I DIDN'T FIND THEM. Not overly keen tbh.

Some terrific stuff about- Mikal Cronin is great, Thee Oh Sees new'un is superb and the Alabama Shakes (that's right) record is a revelation. They always had potential but no songs to go with it- this record is a totally different beast.

Alabama Shakes is indeed quite special. I didn't take them seriously before but I had already heard some praises about this new one and after your advice I gave it a spin. Nuanced record, cracking voice, lovely production. I'd say it's similar to Brothers by The Black Keys but richer, although probably less engaging.

Looking forward to spending some time with the Alabama Shakes & Mikel Cronin albums this weekend.
Really enjoying Blur, too!

Blur's great, too much of Robots Albarn for my taste in the middle part, but good nonetheless.

So, the year that keeps on giving....keeps on giving.
Jacco Garnder's new one is superb. Similar vein to the first (pop/folk/psych loads of catchy tunes), which was good enough but this is another notch up.
Also really enjoying the Blur record. By all accounts the sessions were left largely in Coxon's hands- Albarn loved them and got wholeheartedly behind them. I like Damon Albarn more and more the older he gets. He's working on a new TGTBATQ album, which of course is the best news ever and he's made up with Jamie Hewlett and new Gorillaz work is in the pipeline. Whaddaguy.

So what do you think of FFS? I think the advances have been quite alright so far.

Kamasi Washington - The EpicI know there's not many Jazz fans here but this shit is fucking fantastic. Spiritual Jazz in the same vein as Pharoah Sanders & Alice Coltrane, yet completely cinematic feeling. The record is literally three fucking hours long, thankfully the 3 discs are split into individually titled records to make it more manageable - though I did listen to the whole thing start to finish & it was an absolute joy. He's got a 32-piece orchestra & 20-member choir, definitely deserves its album title. Most will have heard his work as he plays on the latest records from Kendrick Lamar & Flying Lotus.

I'm going to see them in June at the Glasgow Art School. Never has there been a more appropriate venue for a gig.

This is a staggering piece of work. After 3 bus rides of got 2 tracks of disc 3 left ot listen to. It covers a range of Jazz bases (Traditional/Fusion/Space etc.) with something of a modern feel. Some of the playing is phenomenal. I will sell my family to see it performed live. NPR are doing a live stream at 2am UK time on the 27th May. www.npr.org/event/music/402062824/kamasi-washingtons-the-epic-in-concertI read that he's been working on it for 10 years. I'm glad. If someone had told me he'd knocked it out in 6 months I would've been sick. There won't/can't be a better thing released this year. Edit: As soon as i've finished it i'll be starting again. Nothing else is going to get a look in for a wee while.

It's far too overwhelming. I've taken discs 2 & 3 off of my Ipod for now, I'm gonna spend a few weeks on each one as all three have individual titles. Probably more digestible as single records. Either way, remarkable shit.
