1. I'm not not voting for fucking Heat ffs 2. I'm familiar with the story and have read the novel Empire of The Sun, which is considered superior to the film, and was arsed 3. None of Spielberg's films come close to being better than one of my favourite films ever, so something ranked towards the middle of his canon has next to zero chance of being up there.
It's not perfect but what is this, a space programme? Usually I wouldn't vote, like with Tenenbaums (which I really love and heavily suspect that I'd much prefer it to Once Upon A Time, but refrained). But there is literally almost zero chance of Empire Of The Sun topping Heat in my book so took the liberty

A weird 'film tournament' organized none other than themex who thinks Fargo is mediocre at best. DAN WOULD NEVER ALLOW THIS. Yeah what's the deal? Why are we putting these films against each other anyway? Didn't everyone make their list and every film on that list got a certain amount of points, which in turn would determine the final list? Someone explain, either I've gone dumb or this is a stupid film tournament. this is the Carlings Cup not the EPL

If you have two films against each other and you've only seen one of them and still vote, what's the use of a knock out then? thats ridiculous, any idiot who's seen forest gump can vote out something like the godfather or the good the bad and the ugly, its no contest if the films are being picked on popularity rather than how good they actually are.

Well if you have people voting for a film just because they've seen it then the whole point of having a head to head competition is useless.
I've seen forest gump, I've never seen North By Northwest, I'd be a complete cunt to vote Forest Gump just because I've seen it.
IF you've not seen both films you shouldn't vote for one or the other in a head to head.

Don't fucking dare compare my taste with some kind of love for that horrible joke of a band! I didn't say Once Upon A Time In America was even close to the best film I've seen. Just that it edges out ...West. But again, don't mention that band again in a thread. Ever. Thanks.

aaaahhh i see whats wrong mahoney!!!
"Try not to vote for movies you havent seen, plz. I know I wont be voting for the royal tenenbaums cause i havent seen once upon a time in the west and im not too convinced about TRT."
what i meant to say is that if you havent seen a movie, dont vote for the other movie. like, ive seen TRT and i havent seen OUATITW so ill vote for TRT.... dont do this.

Mex, I hadn't even read your original post, I was just making the point that people shouldn't vote unless they've seen both films as this tends to be what happens with competitions like this. & Also, I've just realised I misread Jorn's post so anyway, yeh what Jorn said. I think the whole idea of the tournament is great & I'm glad you are doing it. Sorry for the confusion. *thumbsup*

Yeah, that's what I meant. Only vote if you've seen both otherwise there's no use in having the whole knockout Btw, themex I've think you've worked this out very well. Three weeks for a round gives everybody who wants to participate enough time to watch the movies so in this way we'll have both a Soapbox best movie evah and people have the opportunity to get to know some (hopefully) great new movies

im afraid of that too. thats another reason whyi want people to vote here. cause people here are the only ones who i think would want to manipulate the score. but then again, we could also vote on the polls if we really wanted to, and refresh refresh refresh. hopefully not.
