2016 albums

Started getting into Metallica a bit this year, focussing on Kill 'Em All (my favourite) Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets and their S/T. Anyway, giving the new one a blast after avoiding any of their later releases and it's really powering me through the morning.

I'm really looking forward to the new album from Childish Gambo, the two singles released so far are fucking superb, loving them:

Absolutely loving the Pavo Pavo record. A debut from a new band from New York.

Look away if the hipster aesthetic gets on your nerves, but listen anyway cos it's bloody marvellous.

A Guardian piece on them mentions Grizzly Bear, Flaming Lips, Beach Boys and Fleet Foxes as comparators, which is fair.

Classically trained, interesting instruments, sweeping harmonies but most of all loads of melody.

If you like those bands mentioned up there, you'll probably like it.

I just checked out 3 songs on youtube, this is fucking awful. It's like scientists went into a lab & blended everything about music that makes me want to punch people & came out with this bullshit.

Ran Ran Run is nice, the rest of the record didn't seem so special on first listen.

i read this and the guardian description of them and expected to hate it. ive been very pleasantly surprised though, i think it's a fucking lovely album

flawless is exactly the word for it. it's amazing. fair fucks to the guys, after the passing of phife and 20 years out of the game, to come out with something as classic yet contemporary and purposeful as this is nothing short of astounding tbh.

top 3 of the year for me.

A new Burial EP looks like it's about to be released. Copies were 'accidently' sold on Friday. I'm always stoked for any Burial release, but it would be nice if he produced a full album for once.
