COMEDY GIG ALERT
saw dave gorman's powerpoint presentation tonight.
was pretty damn funny, much better than his stand up tour the other year but not quite in googlewhack territory.
8/10

after seeing the football tonight we decided to head along to emmy the great at norwich arts centre.
was about a 7/10. i like her a lot and the new lp which disappointed me on record sounded much better live, but im just not huge on her with a full band as she was mostly tonight. the encore which was her with an acoustic was much better and how i remember loving her back in the day.
still cant believe she is nailing tim wheeler though the lucky cunt.

very weird night yesterday found out ryan adams was playing bbc's songwriters circle earlier in the week so googled it to see if there was any competitions and ended up on some message board for what looked like BBC workers. Somebody had 20 guestlist tickets and said drop me an email if you can definitely make it so I tried my luck and they sorted it out. Got there and the women said my name wasn't on the list, I remembered the persons name who sent the email and just quoted her name and said my name would be on the door' plus there was a queue behind me so she just left us in. Fucking weird tables in bush hall, was made to sit behind where they was filming so my mug won't be on TV anyway, was miles better than I expected. They had Ryan, Neil Finn & some old dyke called Janis Ian all sat on stage taking turns to play songs. Quite enjoyed Neil Finn, some of his banter was funny too. They did about 7 tunes each which was more than I expected. ryan played Let it ride, dirty rain, oh my sweet Carolina, invisible Riverside, Carolina rain, come pick me up. Finn complamented ryan on how he can write a song so easily then Ryan showed off making songs up on the spot about the house lights & oreo biscuits which was really funny. anyway, it all went well with all 3 artists getting on well until the end then it went hilariously wrong During the show on certain tracks the artists would be improvising and adding tiny guitar parts or harmonies to each others songs but it was due to end with Crowded Houses Fall At Your Feet with all 3 playing together. Apparently they had practiced backstage quickly and they had a run through on stage where Ryan was strumming along a bit with the dyke singing a bit. Finn tried to get the crowd to join in then after a few runs through of the chorus neil noticed Ryan had stopped strumming. He said 'lets get this fucking song done' in a way that only a New Zealender could say it without a slight bit of menace, basically meaning we need to get this done now as we've spent a few minutes pratting about & Ryan took offense to it 'I don't know the fucking song' then Neil started the song and Ryan just sat there with his head resting on his guitar basically sulking It was like watching a 12 year old throw the toys out of the pram Read a few people mention it on the net and they think Neil Finn was being a cunt & I didn't see it that way at all. I understand if Ryan was slightly put off by not having practiced but he could of at least looked interested. after that they was supposed to do 2 more, the woman played one then during that somebody told ryan they was out of time so he started packing up his guitar & other pieces on stage whilst the women was playing a song he stormed straight off when it was over. fucking funny, I'd imagine the bbc will do a great edit job when its on TV in a few weeks time. weird night, but entertaining and the very awkward moments at the end topped it off.

top piece of blagging m8. anytime i've been told "your name's not on the list" i've always got in anyway. as long as you keep calm and don't go batshit mental the person on the door will usually just cave in.

Yeah he has always seemed like a bit of a big kid who sulks when things don't go his way.
Anyone know anything about his upbringing? What type of family he's from? Something I've never heard anything about. Just something I wondered the other day.

He's never exactly been the most reliable interviewee either

Metronomy, Manchester Academy 2
9/10
Metronomy are one of those bands that are really easy to hate. There first album is so trashy and they have a singer who sings in that really annoying modern ponce voice. Persist through these factors though and you will realise there a terrific band who have evolved so far from that patchy first album. There latest album is fantastic, good lyrics and songs which all sound quite different to each other and result in an album that 'flows' properlly. Anyway, was really looking forward to this gig as I missed there last gig as I was on a truly rotten come down and could not drag myself away from the come dine with me marathon on the telly. It really lived up to my pretty high expectations. The band were tight (the bassist is pretty brilliant) and in a good mood and they played what was a pretty long set, almost all of the new album was played, lots of the second album and only 'you could easily have me' off the first one. The crowd was alright too with a fair amount of people dancing at the front. Massively enjoyable, can't wait to see what they'll do for there next album.
Support: Rarely see support bands these days as it intrudes excessively into drinking time.

Saw Roger Daltrey play 'Tommy' the other night. Far better than it had any right to be, without Pete there.
Sloan tonight. Portishead on friday. Big times.

Mazes / Milk Maid @ Kings Arms, Salford - last neet Mazes - 8/10. Mazes have a bit of a pavement / guided by voices kinda vibe, except there punkier and have really short snappy songs. There latest album 'A Thousand Heys' is one of my fave albums of the year, a total winner. Anyway, it was a highly enjoyable set in a pretty cool venue (converted loft room of a bit of a victorian real ale pub). They played as a 3 piece as unfortunately there guitarist had to look after his kid so couldn't be there They managed to rope in a guy from Milk Maid to play his parts and he did an admirable job. Milk Maid - 4/10. They played ok but it was pretty standard indie-fare. Nothing remotely excitingl

Yeah its a brilliant album, I reckon they would be pretty big if it was still 2002. On Wednesday night I went to see Nedry @ The Castle 7/10 - Nedry are kind of dubby trip hop, who occasionally play some guitars over the top of there beats. They have a decent singer who sounds like Bjork too .Arrived 2 songs into there set which was annoying, but despite the fact that the back room of the pub they were playing in was about 200 degrees, it was a brilliant set. They played what seemed like a 50 50 mix of stuff from there debut album (condors) and quite a bit of unreleased new stuff, which if anything sounded even more impressive and a bit thrashier. They were well appreciated by a small crowd of probablly little over a 100 people who got there groove on. Would have been an 8/10 gig but the sound, although being decent enough, didn't really have enough bass for dubbyness to truly sound like it should (ie. inducing rib shattering sickness). No idea what this recording sounds like as i'm posting from work, but its my fave song of theres and no ones turtleed the studio version.

Marah -> 7/10
Saw them arrive in a van and they were still quite sober. From then until the moment they finally showed up, they didn't waste time. Appeared quite pissed, blamed the shit sound on the second song and got down of the stage and starting playing acoustic songs for a while. After that they alterned great performances with some weird moments completely out of the script. I'd have prefered some more electric songs but it was nice nonetheless. Special and odd. Those brothers really enjoy what they do, and that's something I really appreciate from bands. They seem to be wearing the same clothes on every show of this Spanish tour though. The other members were a girl, SJ as a drummer and a rat bassist.

The Horrors @ the Warehouse Project, Saturday neet I've seen 'em four times now and this was the first time the sound was decent. I don't remember a lot of the gig, frankly, except remembering that a) there were a lot of nobs in the crowd and b) it was still bags of fun. I did also learn that I will never again touch poppers 2014 Met Stocky and Abs briefly, which is always pleasant. Still Life was a big moment, Sea Within A Sea was monumental. Wish I remembered more of the gig though. Somewhere between 7 and 8 out of 10
