Broken Social Scene. A fucking 10/10. Amazing. Blown away. No more than 400 people attended. I was right there next to them. I could have played with their effects gear if I wanted to The metric girl sang a couple of songs too.

went to see pharoahe monch in norwich last night.
was a free gig put on by carhartt and dogfish who are a clothes shop in norwich. managed to get some vip wristbands so that was pretty cool. had a great night, partly because i was with a huge group of mates and the fact he didnt come on til 1am meant that we were all pretty wrecked by then. i really do need to get to more hip hop gigs though as the few ive been to have been fucking great.
9/10

Fridat night saw Art Brut at the garage. Gig was put on for lastfm, they didn't come on until 11:30 so I was wankered by then. Fantastic gig though Art Brut never fail to put a smile on my face. 8.75 support was some band called the voilet may. Proper big lad-rock anthems. Found out later the singer is the brother of the singer from Reverend & The Makers and is the guy with the cigarette on the cover of the Arctic Monkeys debut. Check this shit out lad-rockers! singer was fisting the air with the mic stand, so powerful.
Saturday went to see MF Doom vs Ghostface. Really weird night & ultimately very disappointing. Doom came on 20 minutes late at 9:20, enjoyed his set despite me not being clued up. His delivery is remarkable though the crowd just felt very flat. Then he finished at well past 10 then the house lights came on and there was like a 15 minute turnover until Ghostface came on which completely killed the night. His set was dead until he got the Wu-tang material out but it was too late as the venue kicks out at 11. He moaned about the fact he had to go but tbh he must of played the UK god knows how many times, he knows the score. Also did a little tribute to Amy Winehouse which made me cringe. Didn't hate the gig but disappointed, very flat and a weird time 6/10
the night out after with baz & Kev was classic which made up for it.

yeah they had a few songs which had early Oasis punk-rock guitar solo's, I was fisting the air. I knew I had seen the future.
Band look weird though, look like a complete mishmash of people. Had a cocky Liam type on vocals, lead guitarist looked like he should be from the feeling. Some 'Rock type dude on guitar and a drummer with his shirt off with some massive tats.
You can't fuck with man-choons like that though. It was like I saw the new Trap2.

Wilco on sat was hugely undefwhelming I'll let you try to explain it before putting a big on your face. Saw them last Friday, first rock show seatted in my life, which was a nice experience but I don't feel the urge to repeat. But a place like that can be a double-edged sword. You are naked, every fail is noticed and you can lose some connection with the crowd. Not that any of those things happen to Wilco. 3rd verse, same as the first, best live band ever. They can be everything they want, hard, sweet, build perfect structures, break them, mold them again and take them to another level. Love when they're playful and look at each other just before unchaing the storm. The final encore was a complete twister. Opener was Jonathan Wilson, quite good too. On record didn't grab me at all but his skills are better appreciated live.

why would there be a facepalm on me? I like wilco. I go to an absurd amount of gigs. I didnt enjoy this one. how could it be possibly relevant to your experience?

Sonic Youth on Sunday.
Band was in good form and the crowd was ok, but they started late because the previous band took too long to finish their set and they had to finish their set sooner. No songs from Sonic Nurse which I was hoping they played.
7/10

It's not relevant to my experience, but I can't imagine anyone not digging a Wilco show, if it's not for a) not knowing any of the songs b) deliberately not wanting to like it c) being a complete cunt, which is also covered by the two previous options

You wasn't at the same gig as David & no two shows are the same so all 3 of your points are completely pointless.

I can't understand why you feel so offended They're easily the best live band in the world right now, for me and many people. I would not consider them a hipster band or have reasons to hate them by any means. I first saw them at a festival and without being a real fan I was completely blown away, had planned leaving halfway to see some other act I preferred but simply couldn't. I don't know how to explain it, imagine I was talking about The Flaming Lips or BRMC or some act you like with a great live reputation at put yourself in my place...

Their lineup is nearly perfect, they play solid like a machine but manicly and they have a fuckin' load of really different songs to ring a bell on nearly everyone, so I genuinely can't understand how a serious music fan could not enjoy a live show by them.
Maybe (and just being very hypothetical) you can be a little deceived if you had very high hopes, but that's it.

I'm not offended in the slightest.
You do know that no two shows are the same? A band can be on tour for god knows how long and will give lackluster performances. Sometimes the magic just isn't there. Therefor, maybe David's gig he attended was no where near as good as the ones you've seen.
Also, I've seen an underwhelming Flaming Lips show and maybe 3/4 BRMC gigs where for one reason or another they were no where near as good as they usually are.
1. David obviously knows their songs because he went all the way to TCOTU to see them 2. Would not travel half way down the country to see a band he 'wants to hate; 3. Has seen more gigs than probably anybody on this board therefor is a pretty good judge of live music 4. only called them 'underwhelming'. Wasn't as if he came out and said they were useless, boring, no good. Just underwhelming... not as good as he had hoped.
I'm just pointing out the things which you cannot seem to grasp. I'm not angry or wound up, I'm just explaining why your responses to David were a bit silly.

Rifles last Thurs - 8/10 quality as usual
Arctic Monkeys/vaccines last Saturday 7/10 vaccines as the support band, shite sound and wasn't too impressed. Arctic Monkeys were decent, however Alex Turner was trying his best to look like a teddy boy, shit haircut and shit leather jacket.
