I'm not offended in the slightest. You do know that no two shows are the same? A band can be on tour for god knows how long and will give lackluster performances. Sometimes the magic just isn't there. Therefor, maybe David's gig he attended was no where near as good as the ones you've seen. Also, I've seen an underwhelming Flaming Lips show and maybe 3/4 BRMC gigs where for one reason or another they were no where near as good as they usually are. 1. David obviously knows their songs because he went all the way to TCOTU to see them 2. Would not travel half way down the country to see a band he 'wants to hate; 3. Has seen more gigs than probably anybody on this board therefor is a pretty good judge of live music 4. only called them 'underwhelming'. Wasn't as if he came out and said they were useless, boring, no good. Just underwhelming... not as good as he had hoped. I'm just pointing out the things which you cannot seem to grasp. I'm not angry or wound up, I'm just explaining why your responses to David were a bit silly. Ok, I'll buy you that. But the point 2 made me laugh for known reasons. And I really believe they never fail, have never read a bad review (only once a sad loser saying people who went there would have left saying it was the show of their lives without mattering how they have played, but didn't said anything negative per se). He hasn't explained the reasons of that opinion yet, so that's why I want to know. I feel like I need to share my love with the band, just for everyone to enjoy them like I do, it's not really that weird round here. Form an opinion listening to them though, don't use my words if you don't like. But as now it has become an extended discussion about nothing I'm gonna put some facts. All along their discography they have perfectly crafted pop songs, heartbreaking ballads, MOR americana, experimental alt-country, extended krautrock jams, punk ala Replacements, Beatles rip-offs, etc. Jeff Tweedy is a highly praised lyricist, their songs combine spectacular arrangements (sometimes as simple as it should, other incredibly inventive), combining drums, bass, keybords, pianos, three guitars and samplers. And they made two albums with Billy Bragg with Woodie Guthrie lyrics. And all of that played in an impeccable way by: -Jeff tweedy, needs no introduction. -Nels Cline, best guitar player I've ever witnessed. -John Stirrat, love him, underrated bass player, has a fundamental role on the structure of the band. -Glenn Kotche, one of the best drummers I have ever seen. -Guy on the right, probably knows how to obtain a melody of a fried egg. -Guy on the left, plays the piano and the keyboard, looks like a scientist or a croupier, nothing wrong with him. It's not Karl or David versus me, I just asked an explanation about an opinion and then gave mine, maybe you need some easy statements to get it so TEAM WILCO OWNED SENT and a Wintersox quote

There is nothing to get. You've been a mug and can't comprehend that somebody else might not dig Wilco live OR Wilco were not very good that night.
Explaining what type of music they make or how good they are as musicians is completely pointless.

Also, David. Don't bother explaining why to Barny. It'll make him cry even more

Barny, I once heard a Wilco song which sounded like a cross between Neu! and Everything Flow by Teenage Fanclub. I rated it. The couple of albums I've heard I wasn't so keen on. What would I have been listening to and where would I find it?

The songs I heard sounded like Travis, but janker.

omg I made an assertion on the soapbox!
Everyone does it every time, I did it once and even tried to clarify it with arguments, sorry.
I'm just waiting for a review of that gig, just curiousity.

exactly the reasons i suspected to stay away from these 2 gigs. there were quite a few annoying twats for pj harvey at RAH but the material and performance was so strong and the venue so great that it overcame it easily. camera phones at gigs are despicable. i can fully understand taking a photo or a quick vid clip for the sake of memory, i wish i did it at more gigs, but to just have them out recording whole songs and taking pics from every angle...i don't fucking get it. what's the fun in taking yourself so far out of the moment? absolutely. This is exactly what goes through my mind at most gigs. Most songs and videos will be awful anyway and you'll probably never watch them more than once, right after the gig ends.

it was mr david who first mentioned them on here i think, glad you liked 'em though really like West and they were excellent live Got a couple to catch up on, I saw Anna Calvi last Tuesday at Shepherds Bush. Crowd were dicks. Dunno if I'm noticing this more because I'm older or going to those type of gigs more or more TCOTU crowds are dicks or whatever the fuck. Load of old, shit couples standing stock still throughout, allowing precisely zero movement through the crowd. Think I would only sit at the Bush for gigs from now on (unless they were a pretty raucous band)... saw Wu LYF there in seats and it was fantastic. Anyway, we moved off the floor, cos we couldn't see anything (I could barely see anything and Isa and Abs, the two smallest people of the last 20 years, must have been fuming anyway, we moved to behind the bar, which actually worked pretty well as we could see the stage, the sound was good and the only drawback was the terrible cunts talking round us throughout. Calvi was pretty great really, top voice, sound, songs. I enjoyed it after a rather inauspicious start and the dickheads dotted around. 6.75/10 Also saw Doom and Ghostface at the Roundhouse on Saturday. I think I enjoyed it a fair bit more than Karl, Ghostface especially. fully agreed that Dooms delivery is something else and that the turnaround between him and Ghostface, as well as the gig being cut short, was both an annoyance and a disappointment (annoyment..disapoyance?) but beyond all that I had a fucking great time tbh. Probably helps that I've been mad into Ghostfaces solo stuff recently and the tracks off Ironman and Supreme Clientele went down brilliantly with me. So the gig gets 7.5. Night after was even better, I didn't have much to eat on the evening though and got absolutely shitfaced, apparently dancing on the chairs in The Monarch afterwards, with the missus having to coax me home on a 90 minute night bus, leading to a top 5 all time hangover good wholesome fun

The other two were probably mid-late 30s.

You was out for the count at one point, fell on the floor & couldn't get back up again then a few minutes later M.I.A came and you was standing on a chair then there was Kev, limping about before we got to the venue then was pulling moves out left right & center, then on the way back to the bus-stop he could barely walk again That's the power of love. The empire is a shit venue to stand at, it's hard to see much, hard to move about in, always get seats unless it's the cribs or something. It's the bollocks upstairs.
