Went Digitalism at Club Academy, Manchester the other week 7/10 Was good to see an electro act in a real rock n roll venue, with low ceilings and that stale beer smell knocking around. I only generally get to see people like digitalism at events like warehouse project and various electro clubs where they only come on at 2am when your off your head and enjoy it but don't remember anything. Think there trying to do the whole rock n roll thing now though as there new album is more song based and all the songs generally have one of the Digitalism guys singing on them whereas the previous one was more a 50 50 mix. The gig itself was pretty good considering it was a rainy Tuesday night in Manchester and the gig had been downgraded from the 2,000 capacity Ritz to the 500 capacity club academy, still wasn't even 3/4 full either - which was actually quite cool as there was more room to dance. They played a real enthusiastic set considering the circumstances and seemed to really enjoy it. I don't think the new stuff is anywhere near as good as there debut album (idealism), which is a real stonker of an album packed with contageous really fun electro tunes. The stuff off the debut was a joy to hear live but I couldn't get into the new stuff at all. Support came from Manchesters "D/R/U/G/S" who is just a lone ranger electro guy with a Mac and a keyboard. He makes some half decent Kraftwerk-ish stuff, missed most of his set though so didn't really get to hear if he does anything different with it 'live'. MF DOOM Friday night at Manchester Ritz - Skint - Couldn't go - Devastated It was one of the best gigs i've ever seen when I saw him at Warehouse party the other day. So gutted I couldn't get a repeat.

I'm not offended in the slightest. You do know that no two shows are the same? A band can be on tour for god knows how long and will give lackluster performances. Sometimes the magic just isn't there. Therefor, maybe David's gig he attended was no where near as good as the ones you've seen. Also, I've seen an underwhelming Flaming Lips show and maybe 3/4 BRMC gigs where for one reason or another they were no where near as good as they usually are. 1. David obviously knows their songs because he went all the way to TCOTU to see them 2. Would not travel half way down the country to see a band he 'wants to hate; 3. Has seen more gigs than probably anybody on this board therefor is a pretty good judge of live music 4. only called them 'underwhelming'. Wasn't as if he came out and said they were useless, boring, no good. Just underwhelming... not as good as he had hoped. I'm just pointing out the things which you cannot seem to grasp. I'm not angry or wound up, I'm just explaining why your responses to David were a bit silly. hahah what a fucking WANKER!!! leave this fucking planet, mate

I'm not going to rate this gig with a number, I'll tell you what happened and let you decide.
Thursday night I went to see From Archibald Tennessee and I think it is a fair assessment to say they are Deptfords answer to the Kings of Leon. Now I'm not saying that are shit or anything like that so bear (bare?) with me, it's just the treatment of the fans, the true fans that got me.
I had to wait an entire ten minutes to get into the venue while the band and the entourage looked on laughing at us which set the scene for the night really.
The next thing that happened, the main member of this new trio announced "we wont be playing your favourite songs". Well thank you Caleb. I've been with you from the start, and what do you do, tell me that you are going to play songs to please the newbies, the hangers on, the ones that only turned up for the stadium tours when Sex is On Fire (King For a Day) started getting the hype.
Charming, I'd travelled further than everyone else in there put together, right from the heart of Kent (I just measured it at 40.1 miles). I had to drive/train/tube/walk through Lib Dem rent boy country to get there and that was my greeting.
The music was good despite minimal crowed interaction and constant looks at anyone who dared shout at the bass player with a look that said 'artist at work'. He clearly got the arse at changing his own guitars over and I couldn't even see his shoes over all the pedals.
Afterwards, Kev had the cheek to wear a poppy knowing that I would look like an arse if I dared argue with someone giving a gentle nod to the dead. No need to say I approached him anyway and I can't add him to the Craddock/Noel/Serge list of musicians I have argued with but he wasn't as warm as he has been, he was too busy lapping up the groupies to be worried with fans. Long gone are the days of the Deptford Arms, Kev has found his Wembley Stadium.
To summarise, Millie Wanted for Nothing - I did (copywrite Balldog 10.11.11).

Harvest Festival just outside Melbourne yesterday. It was a cracking day, mid to high 20s! Got in to see The Walkmen 6.5/10 decent enough Mercury Rev 7/10 weird seeing them in the blazing sunshine. Their music is really suited to dark rooms after midnight. They were good though, bugger all crowd therethough Death in Vegas - 8/10 quality. However my mate had to go outside cos he was too stoned The National - 8/10 brilliant set, really enjoyed them. Bit short though Flaming Lips 9/10 EPIC. Really are one of the best live acts around. Just one massive party and i'd love to get on stage one day. looks great fun Saw a wee bit of Portishead in passing too

Went to see The Raincoats last night, was nice. First time I'd been to the venue Olives, it's a tiny little cafe/bar that must have held 60 people max. Helen McCookerybook of The Chefs opened the night and was ok, then the two Raincoats ladies played solo sets which were both good before joining forces for The Raincoats which was ace. Top night, real intimate and special vibes going down. Only thing to spoil it slightly was a few technical problems and the fact the pa system was fucking shit.
8/10

ISLET tonight
tiny crowd which was a shame but deffo one of the best live bands in the uk right now. just absolutely batshit mental and their records just dont do their live shows justice. the closest i could come to describing them is like animal collective crossed with super furry animals with a shitload more drugs than even those two bands take but even that would be way off the mark.
9/10

saw Interpol at a free gig sponsored by a mobile company.
The sound was awful. The drums sounded absolutely horrible. Paul Banks' voice was pretty shitty (end of the tour). He had a Justin Bieber haircut too. And the bass player is fine, but it seems half the band is missing without Carlos D.
Crowd was full of screaming girls (this didn't happen the first time I saw them).
It was worth showing up only because they ended the set with Untitled, Specialist and Obstacle 1.
3/10

Lana Del Rey
Crowd consisted of queers and posho girls.
She played 8-9 songs.
Was stuck behind the sound desk. Literally couldn't get any nearer.
Video Games was big though.
She if fit.
