I'm liking the new Vince Staples record on first couple of listens, I'm not usually that keen on the production style it focuses on, the more 'club banger' style, but I'm liking it on this a lot. Loads of energy throughout and a nice compact in/out 36 minutes. Was listening myself this morning and really enjoyed it.

New Vince Staples is ace.
Production is amazing. Felt almost dubsteppy in places, detroit techno in others, laid back LA in others. Good guests too. I could sense Albarn's input. Wonder if it was recorded at the as the same time (as in dates, not sessions) as the Gorillaz album. That was the first thing it reminded me of.
Hip hop is in rude health right now. Both in the US and UK. The Big Boi album is unsurprisingly excellent too.
Will give Young Thug a listen next.

Not feeling the Young Thug record took me a few listens, and it ain't Jeffery (probably my favourite album since Yeezus), but i really love it now. the way those vocal hooks embed just floods me in dopamine.

really pleasantly surprised by the new solo album from peter perrett from the only ones.
the opening track sounds like lou reed and the rest of it really reminds me of television personalities with the whole old man singing slightly childlike and naive lyrics but it works really well.

Another friend has said similar. Will check it out.

I rate the new Action Bronson single. Been meaning to give the new Vince Staples record a go, a few folk have been raving about it.

Gave Young Thug another couple of listens- deffo not for me. Too much whiny singing, not enough decent rapping. Just a taste thing with me though. Most modern R&B leaves me cold.
Also not keen on the Peter Perret record. While it's not terrible, it just feels like a covers album.
Of what i've heard recently, the Big Thief record will almost certainly be troubling my top ten come the end of the year. Gorgeous stuff.
The Moonlandingz record has grown on me. I like the Chloe x Halle record on first spin and actually really loving the Alt-J album.

that's a shame. for me, modern r&b (or whatever you wish to call the various permutations) has produced some of the most forward thinking and interesting music of the last 3-4 years. and i used to fucking hate r&b.

Really love John Hoyles solo record formally of Swedish garage-rock band Spiders, sounds like something from 1979, clocks in at 22 minutes. Addictive stuff

I'm not convinced by them, but I think I'm gonna go and see them in a couple of weeks because Terry are supporting. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.

For some reason I think her voice will be weak live, but I loved the 3 eps and the album is probably going to grow on me quite a bit.

Who are Terry btw? I've never heard of them. I'm trying to decide if it's the best band name or the worst band name ever.
