The Grizzly Bear album is stunning. A friend described it as sparkling. A good word for it.

my favourite hip hop record this year so far Yeah, I really like it a lot. I'm really liking the new Oh Sees record as well. It's not a million miles away from what they generally do, perhaps a little bit more 'proggy' on this one.

I've always felt like I should like Thee Oh Sees a lot more than I actually do. I've heard about 4 or 5 of their records & whilst I've not disliked any of them they never quite grab me the way they should - tho after flicking through youtube this new one sounds more like something I'll dig.

I was like that with them until the A Weird Exits album from last year which really grabbed me and I've since gone back and delved into a few older albums which I've really enjoyed. I was like that with a lot of this garage rock stuff, Ty etc.. but have spent the last 2 or 3 years falling in love with it all. I still can't get into King Gizzard though, like you with the Oh Sees, I feel like I should really love them, but something just leaves me cold with them. Saying that, the new 'jazzier' record they've just released I enjoyed on first listen, so i'll be giving that some more time.

New Morrissey album confirmed for November! Looking forward to it. It's been long enough since his last record that he should have a decent build up of material. Hopefully get a UK tour as well.

So new War on Drugs is good enough, totally Lost in the Dream mark II and could live without the last 25 minutes or so but nice anyway.

Really liking the Nadine Shah album, JP. Also heard War On Drugs for the first time this morning, absolutely lovely stuff. Some of the tracks aren't as instant as ones from their last album but it's still a total treat. I also noticed that Queens of The Stone Age's new one is out. Really like them generally but this new one sounded a bit boring and over-produced. A couple of albums I'm looking forward to spending time with at the weekend: Action Bronson Lil B A Giant Dog Dope Knife Grizzly Bear I think it's been a pretty good year so far with some top stuff still to be released.

That new war on drugs record is atrocious. It's like the middle ground between dire straights and Bryan Adams. One of the dullest pieces of middle of the road shit I've heard in a long time. Embarrassing.

Embarrassing. I could understand your opinion if you hadn't rated the previous one so high... I mean, it's pretty much the same innit, all the 80s cheesy thing talk was due back then. Enjoying it myself anyway. Let's discuss more important things, how are you classifying the new Oh Sees record on your itunes after the name change?

Embarrassing. I could understand your opinion if you hadn't rated the previous one so high... I mean, it's pretty much the same innit, No, it really isn't. The criticisms people threw at the band last time around regarding the the Springsteen/Petty heartland rock style were fine because they were making music could comfortably stand next to those records. Yes, that style isn't perceived as very cool by everybody but he had made something that sonically was captivating that often built to a spectacular end. Now they sound like the commercially bland artists that flooded the radio such as Don Henley & Bryan Adams that poorly imitated those artists. It feels so incredibly calculated & contrived in the same way that Only By The Night by Kings Of Leon sounded compared to their previous work. The funny thing is, it feels like he's deliberately tried to write a stadium-rock record yet has completely failed to make anything that resembles a hit. & fuck me, just listen to his lyrics, looks like they've been ripped from a Christian-rock record. This isn't expectations letting me down, it's simply one of the worst records I've heard in fucking years. I'm keeping everything tagged as Thee Oh Sees, they've a history of spelling their name differently on records anyway (The Ohsees, The Oh Sees, Oh Sees)
