I saw them about half a dozen times I always use the excuse "BUT I ONLY WENT BECAUSE THE STANDS SUPPORTED" in my defence but then I noticed on my sad-bastard gig list that I actually paid to see them once & The Stands wasn't there so the LOLZ are on me.

not sure what i think of the new ride tune on first listen. it's not shit but don't think it's anything special either. that's ride and jesus and mary chain whose albums i was both pumped for that i'm now thinking will be disappointments

I only ever saw them the one time when they supported oasis. They played the song from the itunes commercial about 2/3 of the way through the set and I swear to god I have never in my life seen a rush for the bathrooms/bar as big as that one the moment they finished it. My sad-bastard gig list says that someone named nic armstrong was on before them that night and I vaguely remember them being quite good. I also remember oasis doing the live debut of "love like a bomb" that night and being excited about that. Excited about hearing love like a bomb. 2005, everybody!

Fuck, forgot all about Nick Armstrong, I had what I think was his debut album 'The Greatest White Liar', as you say JP, incredibly retro sounding.

Turned that Ride song off after two minutes, almost as shit as All For One.

I saw him with jet and forgotten oasisish band THE HISS on a NME awards show at the Astoria I bought The Hiss's debut album on the recommendation of long-forgotten forum member Superso-Nick. Think I listened to it once, it was fucking gash. Ride song really reminds me of something but I'm not sure what. The verses are decent but the chorus sounds like a 3rd rate Britpop tune.

While we are being nostalgic does anyone remember the star spangles? They appeared shortly after the strokes with the single STAY AWAY FROM ME. I thought it was incredible at the time, bought the album and it was shit

Weird I almost mentioned him in my last post. I saw him with jet and forgotten oasisish band THE HISS on a NME awards show at the Astoria Haha, THE HISS were shit. Years ago I won a competition to see Oasis play in Munich & Berlin, THE HISS supported both dates. We flew back to TCOTU on a really tiny plane and I was sat next to the members of THE HISS who all thought they were rock stars.

Yeah I remember THE HISS (and the star spangles) well. Heard a tune on MTV2 that sounded alright, bought their album, was total shit.
I reckon I knew pretty much every indie band from 2001-2005, I used to read NME religiously back then.
