I've missed a few days for... reasons so will rapid fire two more right now to be back on schedule.
Go Let It Out
Stone cold classic, the last great Oasis single, here's Noel discovering a mellotron, aping the Beta Band, and getting Liam to quote or paraphrase Robert Lee Sharpe with the "sawdust rings" line. I'm not a fan of the band's aesthetic at this point (Liam's Gaz Coombes style hair and sideburns, the wraparound shades, and later on the denim), but the song works really well. 10/10.
Going Nowhere
Noel-sung Stand By Me b-side, acoustic guitar and horns led slow burner, it's those old Noel themes of getting older and wanting to escape. Quite a pretty song, Noel's singing instead of screaming, downtempo and dark compared to much of BHN - "wanna be wild 'cos my life's so tame" is a solid line, but I always felt uncomfy about the "different versions of many men come before you came"; it's a bit homoerotic, isn't it? 7/10.
Youse guys?
Reminder - the first post includes a running tally of not just my scores but those of all commenters; if number scores haven't been explicitly provided I've had to derive them from post sentiments. Do check it out.

god i love oasis and i love this thread, but the latter doesn't half make it starkly clear how bad 80% of the formers lyrics were

yeah i reckon so. earlier songs got by on defiance and youth and liams delivery, and i really love some lines but they didn't evolve and so much of it is so clunky, repeated or unimaginative.

falling down - always been a fan of this. one of the better late era oasis tunes. good vibes
flashbax - don't really like this very much. i'd forgotten it existed.
force of nature - horrible plodding mess. everything that is wrong with heathen chemistry. sounds like gem wrote it, thats how bad it is.
fuckin' in the bushes - just cool as fuck. perfect gig/album opener.
full on - would have been ok with liam on vocals. this is average as fuck though.
gas panic! - so nice to hear liam's vocals again after that run of tracks without him. huge tune, always really liked the lyrics on this one too.
go let it out - still sounds really fresh. good tune.
going nowhere - not top tier but like this one too. 7/10 in case you were wondering lino

Go Let It Out is the archetypical Oasis song, it's got swagger, class and is the grooviest track they did - if they ever reformed then another comeback tune in this kinda style would be epic. Cool video also plus Liam was most sexy around this time with the longer hair (see Lino's homoerotic lyric).
Going Nowhere I still enjoy and it's clearly the best Noel sung tune from that era. I wonder how this would have fitted instead of Magic Pie despite sounding totally from the vibe of the album? I always felt this must have been written and recorded a lot earlier though given the lyrics also. I'd find the words cringeworthy elsewhere but they work well on this due to the despair thrown in.

I always felt this must have been written and recorded a lot earlier though given the lyrics also. Yes, that sounds like something that's been documented somewhere. As for swapping it in for Magic Pie, it's not a great fit but neither is Magic Pie. Going Nowhere would improve the album. Cool video also plus Liam was most sexy around this time with the longer hair Strongly disagree. A big drop compared to, say, the DKWIM? video, and even the look in SCYHO is better. Horrible glasses and hair. Guess God Thinks I'm AbelDecent Liam penned offering from "comeback" album Don't Believe the Truth. Nice little acoustic number partially about Noel - the melody's catchy, with a nice change come the bridge/chorus. Cool spooky ending after the false stop. Just a 7. You?

He looked more laddish in 97 but more hippy in 00 and he nailed both looks. I do prefer the latter though as long hair on a man, minus a ponytail, is both brave and sexy. I don't have long hair myself.
Abel is a decent tune, nothing amazing but harmless also. There's a nice acoustic version with Liam & Gem on Irish telly floating about on youtube. Would say the title is the best thing about it.

Half the World Away
Attained classic status even before being adopted as the theme song for The Royle Family, it's a slight Noel ballad touching on that same old theme of escape. Repurposes the young body, old mind couplet from Setting Sun to good effect. Some of the rhymes are very clunky indeed; possibly why Weller was such a big fan. 7/10.
And all of you?

No love for HTWA? For shame.
Headshrinker
Fast and loud early number, sung very well by Liam, with some great lines - but overall it's quite a scattered lyric, almost as if it was two different songs (and all repeated. Lazy!). The whole bit about the girl who's a psych now doesn't really have anthing to do with the rest of the lines that speak of being abused and bitter. I love the "I hope you don't regret..." bit. Actually that whole chorus (?) is great, from "lost in a fog..." to "...regret today for the rest of your lives". 7/10.
Y'all?

have you ever been truly madferit, lino? I still am. If I listen to any music in a day, at least some of it is Oasis. How come you ask?

Half The World Away has wonderful lyrics so the rhyme police need to jog on. Headshrinker has throwaway lines but it's such a punk rock tune it doesn't matter. I definitely think, however, that these two tracks together proves every Oasis song sounds the same.

Hello
Very solid album opener with a Wonderwall fakery low in the mix to start, then: dook-dook! - the wailing guitars slide in sounding like a police siren, the drums come a-crashing, and Liam sounds several steps above the singer he was on DM and Whatever.
Lyrically we've got the weather references, some swearing I could do without, a "shee-iine", and what I always took as being the first Noel song about being famous. Minimal repetition too - nice one, Noel.
Unfortunately borrowing from Gary Glitter means that this album likely funded the vicious sexual assault of countless south east Asian children. Nonetheless 8/10.
And alla you?
