Logged on to say similar things about the LDR album. I think it's pretty much a masterpiece. Not said lightly. I'm about 5 listens through and it still has big production but perhaps more overall substance than the previous records (although I really love Ultraviolence too). I also think she's always had smart lyrics, but there's more edge here, perhaps mirroring the feeling of what's going on in the states right now. But the production, songwriting, lyrics and delivery kind of come together in a perfect storm here. It'll be hard to knock this off the end of year top perch. It helps that i'm in California at the moment too. Just shelled out €100+ for a ticket to see her in Amsterdam in the spring. Hope I don't regret it. Just listened to the album, I think this is her strongest release to date, It’s very accessible but feels like a real grower at the same time which is always an excellent combination.

Fuck sake, gonna have to give this a listen. Minus a couple of songs I've not thought much of any of her records so I've have never understood the phenomenon surrounding her.

Same, but I don't think I even care to listen.

I've dipped in and out of Lana Del Rey's stuff over the years but never really gave her a proper try. Must say, this new album, the production is very good. I'm listening now for the first time now and loving the production on Venice Bitch, especially in it's latter half.

California sounds a bit like Coldplay's The Scientist, at least in the verses.

It probably has a little lull in the middle of the record, California is definitely one of the weaker songs, you could probably shave 10 minutes of the album, but those last four songs are sublime, the melodies are gorgeous and lyrically, the peaks of the record.

Listened to the 'new' Miles Davis album that came out last week, which is basically a remix of a bunch of leftovers he had from the 80s and is unsurprisingly garbage for the most part. Seems like Coltrane has another unreleased one coming next month, which should be better.

Gave LDR's new one a couple of listens, like all her music before, it does very little for me. I can't hear the progression everyone's talking about. seems to be like she's still singing about the same old shit, still making albums that are far too long with the same mid-tempo ballads wishing she could repeat the perfection of Video Games but failing each time. Her voice has no range & zero emotion, I can't think of a duller pop-star in the past 10 years, everything feels so cold, calculated and artificial. The obsession with her I find boarding ridiculous. Music for people like to wank over step-daughter porn.

You have the skills to spit out something like that and still make it sound like a fair review. It's not exactly the case here, but if I tried to express similar thoughts I would probably sound so simplistic, biased and, well, sexist. It's a compliment btw

Is it? I'm a bit afraid of what can result, I believe they might still have a great pop record in them but it's equally possible a by numbers one.

I read it somewhere today that the producer or something says its done. Don't take my word for this. Be nice if they went into a studio and thrashed out 10 3 minute gems, though I'm sure there will be SYNTHS n shit all over it. Who knows!

i've been a bit sceptical of these dinked edition vinyls and think they do far too many of them but i pre-ordered the dry cleaning one earlier. can't wait.
