I heard a single from it and loved it.
Stuck alternating between Richard Dawson, Big Thief & Nick Cave right now. Got my flight back from Paris at 10pm so gonna let that Nick Cave album consume me and have a little cry into a cheap red wine.

First listen of Mikal Cronin and it's promising. Wasn't so keen on his last one.
Read that this was recorded live with Ty's freedom band.

Yeah neither are anything too memorable I quite like the new neil album. At the very least, it's the best thing he's done since....well, the last horse album. In other old people news, notwithstanding the fact that it's his 6th album in the last 4 years...Van the man's new one is quite good as well.

i think this is the first year in a long long time where i dont have a clear winner for my album of the year yet. there's currently a good 3 or 4 albums vying for that spot and i just can't make up my mind.

Looking through RYM, I didn't realise just how many EPs I've enjoyed this year. Usually I have about 10, most being pretty good but forgettable. This year I could probably do a top 30 EPs. It's OK Barny you don't have to add those up too! I'm going to include both Dry Cleaning releases, deal with it.

Have started having a listen to some of the years earlier releases again in preparation for my famous 40. Gotta say, I'm really enjoying that new Ian Brown record. I doubt it'll make the list, but I'm surprised 1. that it flopped so hard (I know he did zero promotion & no gigs, but still) & 2. How it was slated by everyone. I guess people were still just really bitter about the Stone Roses, this being released was pretty much the confirmation that it was over. You can pick a 1000 holes in the record, but TBH most his solo records were like that anyway, it's just great to hear his voice again. I Wouldn't mind if he continued to live in obscurity & just dropped a lo-fi style record that sounds like it was made in garage band every once in while.
Also, is it safe to say Steve Mason on the decline? His last two records haven't grabbed me anywhere near like the first two did.. & that new EP isn't very good either. Also, I saw he did that terrible festival in Scotland as well as Shine On Weekender, it's as if he's joined the Coral by joining the irrelevant circuit far too early.

new steve mason ep sounded like his own version of noel gallagher cosmic pop to me.
i'm seeing him in norwich next monday and i can only assume tickets have sold poorly as there's been a few competitions floating around for tickets and the venue has been emailing about it. all the normal signs of a poorly sold gig. only a 300 capacity venue too.

Nice, hopefully he'll be forced to reform Beta band. Either that, or play before the Bluetones & Cast in Butlins, the choice is yours Steve.

yeah I looked at that in shock. Once you've associated yourself with that circuit there's no turning back.

i can only imagine when they asked him if he wanted to support embrace he thought it was the embrace that the geezer from fugazi used to be in.

Been really enjoying the Steve Gunn album today. Tried it a bit when it came out and it didn't really grab me but it's really hitting the spot today.

Yeah Steve Gunn is going to be high on my list. I've kept coming back to it throughout the year and it gets better all the time. Reminds me of peak Kurt Vile
