The Jesus Abyss are back again! And ripping off U2's idea of having two releases with similar titles First of all is a double A-side single: Songs For The Disconnected
This is a return to the Learning The Trade/27 Not Out style of writing. I was inspired by Guided by Voices at the time, though it basically sounds like what I was doing years ago. One's a little ditty with a repeating lyric, the other a more traditional verse/chorus tune. My only hope is to regain my original fans such as JP that left me when I started to become too experimental for them. yellowperilrecords.bandcamp.com/album/songs-for-the-disconnectedThe second is: Words For The Disconnected
After doing the singer-songwriter thing, the punk band, the experimental drone project & conquering dance music I've decided to step into new waters. This is my first attempt at a spoken word/poetry. It's a mixture of surreal situations, true stories, politically minded material & a dose of self-loathing. Please now refer to me as "The Poet, Mahoney" yellowperilrecords.bandcamp.com/album/words-for-the-disconnected

'For the disconnected' is cool, really enjoy the way it grows by adding voices and guitars. I believe it would fit better in a bigger record as an intro then again a coda in the closer (just like Wanna Go Home on your previous one). Wrestle With Danger for me is one of your best guitar+voice numbers tbh. Poetry is definitely not my thing, so I'm giving the other one a listen but don't expect a detailed review. I'd say it's all a bit too one-paced? I believe if at some moment you started screaming I probably jump out of my seat. FAKE EDIT: Don Van Vliet's Socks is the standout so far

Wrestle With Danger is Top 5 Karl Mahoney, top job.
Listening to your spoken word stuff makes me feel like a collaboration in the works. With your permission, I'd like to start sound tracking these little nuggets.

Thanks for listening guys. Was hoping to do an EP/album featuring those two tracks but that was as far as my ideas with a guitar went. If things don't come out thick and fast I usually just get bored and start doing something else.
Originally I did think about making some kind of soundtrack/score for the spoken word stuff then decided to just go with the words. But yes, that sounds a great idea Tucker, definitely be up for that. Hoping you get another Tuckerman record out this year.

just listened to all of this.
i thought for the disconnected was a real nice idea but would like to have seen it developed further. wrestle with danger is very good.
it was the poetry though that really shocked me. i loved it. genuinely think some of the ideas were really clever and the language used really thoughtful. definitley could get yourself a slot in the poetry tent at latitude this year bruv.
early favourites were anne from next door, addiction, the bloodsucking leech and regina...

all I've ever wanted in life is your approval JP. This makes up for my past 32 records being neglected.

Been really back into fucking about on the computer lately. Working on another collection of spoken word pieces & a more what I'd call typical Jesus Abyss project that started out as an ambient/drone record but has developed into this kinda house/techno thing, it's all over the place but I'm quite happy with how it is turning out - that one isn't far off being finished. Also knocked this tune up quickly, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. Might do an EP of throwaway/catchy sleaford Mods/Billy Childish type material.

You don't mention it, but I definitely see big The Fall vibes, nice one.

Love that one. Both the words and music. Release an album of this sort of stuff and I'll give you at least 4 stars on RYM.

Both Weekend Warriors and Firm Rankings are the best things you've done for years. Love the contrast of the glitchy electronics against the lounge jazz piano. Simple genius.

you got it. it's almost word for word what came out his mouth a few years ago after a Welling game. I dunno why but the fact he sat there and ranked them one by one really tickled me.

This record I started in November and actually spent some time getting the tracks how I wanted them. I usually just come up with an idea/concept, get it down & move on, but here I went back and edited tracks & played with them until I was happy, which is something I've very rarely ever bothered with. There's some ambient stuff on there as well as a few house/technoish bangers. In my mind I was going for Bowie's Low meets LCD Soundsystem, of course it fails at both but I'm quite happy how its turned out, quite varied & feels like a complete work. Think it's the best of the non song/vocal type stuff I've done so far. yellowperilrecords.bandcamp.com/album/transitionsI've really been enjoying creating stuff these past few months. I'm half way through another spoken word record and have ideas/concepts for the next two Jesus Abyss records. I plan on them being the two extremes of this record, the more typical ambient/drone style one called Deconstructions & one simply called BANGERS which is going to be along the lines of Murphy's Law & the title track from this record

Had my first listen, nice early Monday sounds. Good flow all around and a well measured mix between ambient pace and techno detours. Not sure about LCD, but Low and Eno vibes are felt.

Just realised I'd turtleed the same song twice to the record Fixed now, the title track is now different to Murphy's Law.

Can't tell you I noticed the first time Title track is easily one of your career highlights, firstly I can't avoid thinking of Kasabian's Fire riff but it's under a Kraftwerk mantle that works quite well. Then it gets a bit King Crimson-y by the way of Madchester. Lovely.
