Really enjoying that Villagers record, nice one Titch, would have never have bothered otherwise.

I think the new Jane Weaver album might be favourite so far this year. Just gone back to this after a few months. Surprised it didn't receive more love on here. It's marvellous.

I really liked her previous album, but this one just didn't grab me.

This thread is too quiet this year. Throwing a few recs out: Djinn - Transmission spacey almost ambient in places jazz record from members of Swedish psych bands Hills & Goat. Big vibes on this one Amaro Freitas - Sankofa Brazilian pianist. Usually not the type of jazz I gravitate too but this is really doing it for me. Mostly a 3 piece but I've been feeling this one Skyzoo - All the Brilliant Things have tried a few of his projects in the past and was a bit indifferent to them. This ones really landing with me. Lots of jazz samples & boom bap beats without sounding like a throwback. Cool record. Joao Selva - Navegar Upbeat Brazilian MPB record. Been sounding glorious with the recent weather The new Go! Team records an absolute joy. Yeah, it's pretty much the same old Go! Team, but them really nailing it. Nobody else sounds like that band, bloody wonderful. Also Vanity Fairys EP Love From Above. Ridiculous late 70s disco meets early 80s pop. Superstar is such a tune Loving the Skyzoo album.

But his 2019 record with Pete Rock is a whole different level though!

The Djinn record is also really good. I would expect to see them play Cafe Oto.

Properly obsessed with the new Low album at the minute. Everyone jizzed over their last one but I struggled with it. This is doing it for me right now though.

Never listened to any of his stuff before. Aware of the name from the Archie Sheep thing he did. What kind of thing is this new one? Been listening to the collab with Archie Shepp these last couple of days. It's excellent.

Much like the Villagers album a month ago, the Sainte Etienne album has caught me by surprise.
Another band that have passed me by, bar an odd single here and there in the 90s.
But a review of their new album popped up on the Quietus, which I thought was out of place. But they loved it and lo and behold, it's kind of wonderful.
For anyone that went clubbing/raving in the mid 90s, it'd be the sort of thing that would sit alongside Leftism (i'm not comparing the 2 btw) at an after party or at a certain cafe or two by the beach in Ibiza. I wish i'd discovered earlier in the summer.

If the singles are anything to go by, i'm looking forward to the new Parquet Courts album.
First is classic Parquet Courts, second seems a little different

Dunno if the Anna B Savage album got any love here back in Feb. Just getting round to it now.
Very good indeed.

Sufjan's movie related collaborative record with some Angelo guy is a quite nice, happy-folk record
EDIT: Happy is an overstatement, but you know how far this guy's misery can reach...

I thought those Parquet Courts singles were really poor, feeling overly calculated. They are a million miles away from the spontaneous energy of Light up Gold now.
Low.. I just don't get the appeal. Tried a few records in the past that did little to nothing & I'm flicking through the new one on youtube & it isn't for me.
EP from Maria Uzor is great if you want some electronic danceable pop.

The first of those two Parquet Courts singles is amazing. I really don’t understand how a prog rock fan like you can talk about ‘spontaneous energy’ with a straight face

On another Jazz tip. I can't remember who put me onto Web Max by Web Web & Max Herre. If it was someone on here, then cheers.
Anyway, it's great. Spiritual jazz with little Eastern flourishes. Some good guest slots (Mulatu Astatke and Yusef Lateef caught my eye and ear).
This has an early 70s Fusion feel to it.
