Don't pretend you don't like Run To You! That's a Springsteen song ain't it? 🤔

that new war on drugs lp is one of the worst things i've heard all year. and i say that as someone who still really liked their last album.

Is there some odd parallel universe at play here where a band called We're On Drugs have released a shit album that you lot have been listening to?
It's solidly a top 10 record released this year. A belter of a record. Of course there has to always be an allowance for personal taste in these matters, but how can so many soapboxers be wrong?

The last time I was in TCOTU I saw a whore on Suggs, but even that sounded better than the war on drugs.

I'm not sure if the new Spiritualized album is on the way this year or if it'll be out in 2022. I was excited to see a new single was released today, then it turns out it's basically remix of 'Always Forgetting With You (The Bridge Song)' that was released for RSD a few years ago. The new version is great, but I definitely prefer the original

I don't really know what counts as pop music anymore, but I think the Remi Wolf album is probably. What is definite though is how good it is. Was surprised to hear Iggy Pop play this on his 6music show yesterday. I love it (and the album). Another couple of big pop releases this year that should trouble end of year lists from Lily Konigsberg and Riley The Musician. Also, I don't know how you'd categorise the Illuminati Hotties album, but it's also great.

I love it. Some of his best ever melodies and some more experimental bits that come off beautifully.
A big improvement on his other solo album and not far off his best work.
He's still a bit of a knob though.

A couple of late (well, late to me) contenders are the 2 Your Old Droog albums from this year.
An underground-ish Hip Hop artist that i've only recently come across

Robin Pecknold has just released a live album (A Very Lonely Solstice) of him doing a handful of Fleet Foxes numbers (old and new) acoustically (mainly just him and his guitar) in a church, with no audience. I think it was part of the recording sessions for the last album.
Anyway, it's delightful. Could never get bored of his voice and the songs all work well stripped down.

I've just discovered Dazy's MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD, which might have made my 2021 list if I hadn't already closed it. It's homemade (drums are probably the most obvious harm) but really 90s, great guitars and choruses.

A couple of late (well, late to me) contenders are the 2 Your Old Droog albums from this year. An underground-ish Hip Hop artist that i've only recently come across Discovered him at the beginning of 2019 via his track 'Bangladesh' which Romesh Ranganathan played on his 'Hip Hop Saved My Life' podcast. 'Transportation' from 2019 is well worth a listen. EDIT: I actually had 'Dump YOD: Krutoy Edition' ranked third on my end of year list in 2020.
