Genesis Owusu has released a pretty great debut, genre hopping as fuck but always in the right side of it. Impressive production and consistency. A sunnier Yves Tumour or like my favourite bits of things I'm usually mid about (Young Fathers, Slowthai or Prince).
The For Those I Love record released today is seriously good. Production wise it's easiest to compare to early Streets stuff (spoken word, bedroom electronic beats and hooks). Turn the Page is referenced in the 2nd to last track too, which on first listen might be the stand out track.
Lyrically it's a different beast though. All about his dead best mate. But it never feels too heavy. Powerful stuff.
i must admit i was disappointed on first listen. i was expecting something a bit more out there though with a more electronic/free jazz hybrid kinda feel. now i know its a more minamalist modern classical piece i'll hopefully approach it in a different frame of mind next time out. will definitely spend more time with it
Has anybody heard the new Neil Young live acoustic thingy? Undecided whether to get it or not, it looks like a carbon copy of Live at Massey Hall (which I like, but I don't think I need to buy it again).
Yeah, I loved it but it is just a slightly less good version of Massey Hall. That was good enough for me though as Massey Hall is probably my favourite ever NY release, 5 stars all day long.
I'd not listened to Neil much in the past couple of years but Young Hurricane has started the obsession off again.
