“For this new record it was the first thing I wrote, the first thing I demoed and the first thing I finished, so it’s only right that it’s the first thing people get to hear. Massive shout out to my mainest man Johnny Marr for taking it somewhere special. Oh ... and watch out for a cameo from me in the video … first one to spot me wins a bag of Flamin’ Hot Wotsits Giants!!”

God, can anyone seriously trust this man to be able to write 10 songs worthy of an oasis record if they get back together? might as well keep Liam's SQUAD on the writing.
Yeah, really bad. His voice sounds tired, old and fragile. I guessed some of the lyrics on the first listen. Just the same old shit.
The video is super cringe. Noel the woke gender bender equality warrior. Not sure how that will go down with his tory mates.
Agreed,
His voice just isn't good enough - It's almost like the music he's making is not believable or forced. His best attribute would be him and an acoustic guitar.
The video is very cringe as well and is trying too hard.
I always thought I'd want Oasis to reform but I just don't think Noel has the songs anymore and Liam is doing great with his writing team.
I'd usually think what I'm typing is just awful advice, but in Dwayne's case, he should just stick to what made him successful (and I don't mean Liam's vocals LOL). That first solo record for the most part he kept to the tried and tested path with a few flourishes into dance/psych without it ever feeling forced. This whole I'M A SONIC ADVENTURER shite is not OUT THERE & more importantly, isn't any good. Even the people that fell for it with the "at least he's doing something different, Liam's just trying to recreate past magic" had woken up by the time he started releasing those terrible EP's.
Doesn't help that he decided that he could actually sing at some point (which of course, he cannot). When he used to know his limitations on something such as Talk Tonight, Sad Song or Going Nowhere his voice was... fine, it showed vulnerability & had a level of heart/passion without being forced (no fucking SHOUTING either). The best thing he could do now is literally fuck off, write a huge batch of songs on an acoustic guitar and then get some talented people in to help arrange them, the simpler the results, probably the better.
That's if he's even able to write a worthwhile song nowadays, I guess that is not a given anymore.

I usually use my wife as a barometer for this stuff, as she liked oasis and has a good ear for this kind of thing. She liked some of the "dancey" (I use that term exceedingly loosely) stuff like ballad of the mighty I, but she was indifferent to the 3rd album and the EPs, but when she heard 'dead in the water', her immediate response was "why doesn't he do that more?" I didn't really have a good answer.
I think the new song is fine. It's not "everybody's on the run" or "d'you know what I mean?" but it's...fine. It's ironic, given that it's one of my favourite late-era oasis songs, but the worst thing that ever happened to him was "the importance of being idle" being a hit, because it convinced him that his stupid falsetto was actually something people wanted to hear.

I think Dead In The Water is proof of what you're saying here. Easily the best song he's written as a solo artist, and look how simple it is?
