Really like this, good 3 minute power-pop anthems. Sounds like Brendan Benson singing in a super group consisting of Weezer & Teenage fanclub. A few songs have really poor lyics & the vocals can be a bit whinny to the point where they don't sound a million miles away from being sum41 or blink 182 but their knack for melody always overshadows those moments. Anyone who keeps downloading the new Weezer LP's in hope that they might not be shit could do alot worse than this. 8

The past few days I've been working my way through this start to finish for the first time in years. Obviously many of the songs I hear on a regular basis but I'd not been through from the start to end for so long that it was an amazing experience. Out of the 118 songs there was only 20 tracks that I wasn't that arsed about & even those were still pretty decent. Surely one of the greatest compilation boxsets ever compiled. 10/10 all neet.

Really love both of the Nuggets box-sets. I can't even remember where I heard about them but it was probably you. It#s the sort of thing my cousin would adore but fucked if I'm copying about 10 disks and writing the songs out. Pity it's probably damn expensive to buy.

Shuggie Otis - Freedom Flight (8/10) A really laid-back, chilled out, funk/soul album.
At The Drive In - Relationship of Command (8/10) Bangin' album. Used to be a bit put off by the vocals but with repeated listens they become more enjoyable. Really, really like it these days.

The Horrors - Strange House -> 5.5/10 First listen in a couple of years and probably 5th in my whole life. It's not as bad and disgusting as I remembered, a complete mess and they looked like complete cunts, but looking back this comes as interesting piece of weird work.
Black Lips - Black Lips -> 6.5/10 Probably my least favourite album from them, the least listened too but also the last one I downloaded so that might be the reason. They were the same guys we know, I wouldn't say rawer but more tumultuous for sure and completely careless.

Not heard it in ages. Will revisit it soon as I'm loving the new record but I can't remember thinking much of it. Far too rough sounding ruining the potential of most the songs.

Yeah, in fact I listened to it after seeing you mention it somewhere. Also found the Live @ WFMU LP or a rare rip from it, loved it, completely chaotic but brilliant in its own way.

Yeah, that iTunes session is quite good.
Me, I've just listened to Blinking Lights & Other Revelations. It's the Eels album I've listened to the least, cos I still find it hard to digest. It's bright and big and ugly and dark and big and great, but I dunno. 7/10

As I said on the youtube thread, had a first listen to The Age of Adz. I must say it was good but I'm not overwhelmed by it. Yet. Or I am. Cos the last track needs a separated rating. At the very least it is respectable, you can enjoy it more or less but can't deny that. It's a song to stick on your ipod while you go out to the street. Calmly you keep walking to your destiny: the hat store. You can have a look, decide, try one or two on and pay one of them. Then you put it on and at this moment, after around 20 minutes of the song, you are ready to take your hat off to Sufjan.

Spectrals - A Spectrals Extended Play EP (2010) -> 6/10 I never thought I would dig a band with that name, I imagined they were some kind of boys dressed like ghosts making electronic beats. But they're quite nice, all songs flowing gently, will try to catch them on Field Day.
Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes (1983) -> 7/10 First listen to this, quite surprised at the sound and songs tbh, quite familiar and (for lack of a better word) logical but still being different and relevant. I didn't pay full attention to it though, but I can see it becoming a personal preference.
The Kinks - Kinda Kinks (1965) -> 7/10 Don't find this Kinks era specially special but having saying that, the album comes and goes before you realize, leaving a sweet taste.
Crystal Antlers - Two-Way Mirror (2011) -> 6.5/10 I'm glad they have polished their sound a little, the melodic bits lift the chaotic background to a better place. But imo they lack consistency and tend to get lost in an ocean of nothingness.

Had a listen while driving to SOTSOG and really enjoyed it. Probably the most underrated Oasis album for me, but after all I rate them all anyway. Best two starting songs ever, probably. Production wise it has some of the most brilliant (Fuckin' in the bushes, Go Let It Out, PYM into Little James, Gas Panic) and some of the worst (Sunday Morning Call, shit choirs, end of the wall of sound) moments of their career. Maybe the songs are not too strong, but I have time for all of them, even if it's just five minutes each 3 years I personally believe both Noel sang songs had the potential and quality to be pop radio tunes, not said as a praise though. Oh, and I have always liked Little James. "I'm just singing this song, for you and your mum, and that's all". Just like the album, if you forget a bit about Oasis and the overanalyzing, it's a solid record.

I was listening to it and thinking "ok, maybe they went too far with the coda", but the truth is not too long or overblown. Just a 5th track on a 4th record. For any band bar Oasis it wouldn't have been a problem.
