Is it really a transcode? I'm currently downloading it now (thanks for the link Dan).

It's fucking fantastic!!! Someones got a contact high Its alright. Its more immediate than First Impressions was. New Explosions and Strokes back to back though. Good weekend for leaks. I know. Genuinely still love this though.

I agree on Machu Picchu as a stand out. Sounds like 80's Duran Duran.

Told you all it was shit didn't I? Indeed you did. Not really feeling the majority of the record. A few good tracks and a lot of disjointed shit. That remark that one of em had about the recording process really shows in the final output.

My original thoughts from the clips: 01 Machu Picchu - sounds nice 02 Under Cover of Darkness - meh 03 Two Kinds of Happiness - sounds a bit as if Crocodiles covered a song from FIOE 04 You're So Right - Not impressed 05 Taken for a Fool - Awesomeness 06 Games - meh, it has that 80's sound Julian loves so much 07 Call Me Back - interested to hear more 08 Gratisfaction - Sounds fun, MASSIVE chorus tbh 09 Metabolism - Nice guitar work, sounds dark 10 Life is Simple in the Moonlight - interesting vocals, nice keyboards My thoughts after hearing the whole thing about 67 times: 01 Machu Picchu - Standout track, definitely, good opener, fun, this is going to get played a lot. 02 Under Cover of Darkness - Has definitely grown on me since seeing the SNL performance and watching the video. It doesn't feel as overblown as before, instead I'm getting the happiness of it. 03 Two Kinds of Happiness - This sounds good, it could've been on ROF; it has that 80's/The Cars sounds they perfected in 2003 but took it a step beyond and gave it a bitchin' guitar solo that doesn't mimic synths this time around. I like it a lot. 04 You're So Right - Whoever thought 'hey let's definitely put this on the record' needs to be shot in the penis. Worst Strokes song ever. 05 Taken for a Fool - Probably one of my favorites on the album; sounds great and it's a lot of fun. 06 Games - It's average; so average I don't even remember what it sounds like. 07 Call Me Back - see above 08 Gratisfaction - My favorite song on it (as of right now). That chorus OMFG. Love it love it. 09 Metabolism - This is very 'dark', sounds like it could've been on FIOE; it's not bad but it's not great either. 10 Life is Simple in the Moonlight - This is a great song, and I think it's a good closer. Like the Beady Eye record, the first impression is that it's not bad but it's not great either, it might take a while for it to sink in and grow on me. But so far I wouldn't say it's "shit" either; I'm glad it's only 34 minutes long and they're experimenting with new sounds (even though some of it might sound like Julian's stuff--this is better than Julian's stuff, by miles). I think the songs will sound massive in concert btw. So we got that to look forward to.

Machu Picchu - PRETTY GREAT Under Cover of Darkness - IRRESISTIBLE Two Kinds of Happiness - Sounds like The Police FFS. Goes nowhere Picks up a little bit at the end with the nice guitar work but that's it. You're So Right - I QUITE LIKE IT ;D Taken For a Fool - Sounds a bit cobbled together but I like all it's constituents. Chorus makes me Games - Drifts along doing nothing of any particular worth Call Me Back - Forget about it as soon as it finishes ;D Gratisfaction - Pleasant enough, but it tries hard too hard to be a sweet little ditty and ends up coming across quite laboured Metabolism - S'aight Life Is Simple In The Moonlight - THIS IS A DECENT SONG Not a very good album. A million miles behind anything else The Strokes have done

Love Taken For A Fool, though not really getting on with the completely forgettable Two Kinds Of Happiness
Call Me Back is dull and plodding, and a genuine contender at this point for my least favourite Strokes tune
Not really having the closing track either, but otherwise it's pretty decent
3 POINT 5 OF THE STARS

01 Machu Picchu 9 great opener 02 Under Cover of Darkness 9 great lead single 03 Two Kinds Of Happiness 8 sounds so 80s to me not bad though 04 You're So Right 6 Strokes going Radiohead, so-so 05 Taken for a Fool 9 favorite at the moment 06 Games 7 i like the verses and the "empty world" part, but u expect more to come..... 07 Call Me Back 5 this albums "ask me anything"!?! interesting in parts, shit alltogether 08 Gratisfaction 8 what song is the melody in the very beginning from?? the whole song sounds like its stolen from a handful hits all mixed together..good but not great 09 Metabolism 7hmmm,..not sure bout this one, dont like when Julian drags the tones that much, i know its the melody of the song,..doesnt suit his voice too much imo 10 Life is Simple in the Moonlight 9 nice album closer, nice melodies, classic Strokes 7/10 hope the stinkers grow on me

"nice album closer" is not a 9 and "good but not great" is not an 8, mr grotesque. please remark accordingly whilst the album is disappointing, under cover of darkness is all sorts of brilliant. makes me so happy.
