Oh, Brad. No never been, planning to, in a couple of years. Any places in particular that take your fancy? Scotland, mostly. Don't know why, I think I'd love it there. Edinburgh, mostly, and the countryside. I want to live in a place like this:

Also want to mention my beef against these modern femal singers like Joanna Newsom and Cat Power who seem to focus all their efforts on looking good instead of sounding good. They should be "independent" musicians who are supposed to refuse the mainstream trend of sexual hook to sell records, aren't they? They are no different from Lady Gaga or Britney Spears then, only they have intellectual claims, which makes them even more disgusting. Bet one of them will make an erotic film to promote her next album.
Thanks to the smart hype (helped by a good share of proto-pornographic pictures), our good friend Joanna Newsom has been allowed to release a TRIPLE CD ALBUM, while first class songwriters like say, Mark Eitzel have problems selling 500 copies of their newer albums...bah humbug.

I have little time for most of the bands mentioned by shenandoah (wtf was your previous forum name? i can't keep typing that load of pish) Living in the UK, I find it hard to properly 'hate' bands like Deerhunter or Animal Collective. They're just a bit boring, it's a lot easier to just ignore them if you live somewhere across the pond like Glasgow. There's so many interesting bands right on your own doorstep that I couldn't really care less about them. yeah I know Chrissie, but it's hard for me to sit and stare at the music universe fucking itself up. It's true there's some interesting music right now, but it's also true that a lot of interesting music doesn't get the recognition it deserves because of these hoax artists who rule the market. It's just not right to see that Animal Collective are given the chance to release as many records as they wish, while some top class songwriters has to strive to get a record deal. Oh btw my username on the old old board was 'noelrock' then 'Simone' on the last soapbox, but I didn't post for a while there.) oh shenandoah, i love you but your hatred of joanna newsom makes me sad. yeah baz, love you too and you're right, I shouldn't go berserk like this. I don't really care that much to be honest, probably was just exaggerating my rage.

Cat Power does sound good though, you're just hating on her cause she's smoking hot. Not her fault tbh.

nah she sounds piss poor to my ears. I don't hate musicians because of their look, what do I care? I just hate when they use their look as a gimmick.

You surely would have used some proto-pornographic pictures if that would help the release of a triple album... back when you were called noelrock, I mean

Well I like The Greatest, it's a nice album. Haven't heard anything else, so I'm only going by that one album. She's harmless, why would anyone pin-point her on 'using looks/sex to sell'? She's not topping the charts as far as I know, she's just a good looking woman who sings, some like it, some don't. The Animal Collective hate thing I understand, but not this.

Yeah also didn't Joanna Newsom's 'Have One One Me' soar to the top of the charts throughout th world breaking sales record after sales record?

In the Joanna Newsom hate club as well. Cannot stand her at all. I do have respect for her as shes unique, but the music is grating to my ears.
Cat Power I can take or leave. I like a few tunes, but she is STUNNING, so she gets a partial pass.

Yeah also didn't Joanna Newsom's 'Have One One Me' soar to the top of the charts throughout th world breaking sales record after sales record? I'm obviously talking about a different kind of credits and recognition, which is not entirely reflected by mere "sales statistics". Animal Collective never reached the guinness world record for their sales, but this doesn't make the credits they get and their output less irritating, no? It's clear to me that even if Joanna Newsom or Cat Power don't sell like Queen, they don't deserve the attention and the respect they get. As said, I find absurd that J.Newsom can release a triple cd album, which means there's a lot of money involved, while artists like Billy Bragg (who's been doing this job for 35 years) often don't even know what label will help them to release their record. So no, it's not about topping the charts. It's about getting unfairly praised while other artists get unfairly ignored.
