animal collective have released their fair share of tripe that's for sure, but sung tongs and merriweather are two of my favourite albums of the last decade and the fall be kind ep was top as well, so i can't exactly say i agree with a lot of the vitriol in this thread oh, and did low get mentioned earlier on? wow. but never mind, ey. i hate and have always hated pink floyd, just don't find it enjoyable in any way whatsoever. the bulk of my least favourite records would be prog as well tbh, stuff like marillion, jethro tull, yes, etc. total shit. oh, and razorlight + hard-fi obviously. as for stuff i hated but now don't mind, would definitely agree with karl on the doors. enjoy them quite a lot nowadays.

Yeah also didn't Joanna Newsom's 'Have One One Me' soar to the top of the charts throughout th world breaking sales record after sales record? I'm obviously talking about a different kind of credits and recognition, which is not entirely reflected by mere "sales statistics". Animal Collective never reached the guinness world record for their sales, but this doesn't make the credits they get and their output less irritating, no? It's clear to me that even if Joanna Newsom or Cat Power don't sell like Queen, they don't deserve the attention and the respect they get. As said, I find absurd that J.Newsom can release a triple cd album, which means there's a lot of money involved, while artists like Billy Bragg (who's been doing this job for 35 years) often don't even know what label will help them to release their record. So no, it's not about topping the charts. It's about getting unfairly praised while other artists get unfairly ignored. But that's entirely subjective though isn't it, just because you don't think she is deserving of it, doesn't mean that others don't, and lets be honest when you're at the kind of rung that both her and Bragg are on, it all comes down to whether someone likes your music enough to put it out for you, neither will realistically be looking to sell a shed load of records, so someone has to take a punt, luckily for Newsom, she has a label who obviously like what she does and are prepared to let her do her thing and trust her. Its not Joanna Newsom's fault that someone isn't as prepared to take such an obvious risk with Billy Bragg, again it comes down to subjective taste, I personally am not that keen on what Bragg does, so if it was me I would rather pay for Newsom to release an album than Billy Bragg, does that make me a cretin? I think its a rather silly attitude to take to call it unfair because someone who's music you don't like is allowed to release music more comfortably than someone you do like, its a bit like squabbling with pre-pubescent school friends about who is better Oasis or Blur, music, art, is subjective which is why its so great and universal, there is virtue in all art, high and low.

Prog rock yes Hate that so much, People who love that usually are so dull. I also hate all that (prog) metal stuff, for me it lacks everything what music should be about. There's so much music I hate I really like this thread. Talking about a band I used to hate but now think is alright I have three bands. The Rolling Stones is the first one. Never hated them but always thought they were a but cunts for asking 150 euro for a gig and those gig being full of dull cunts. Even though I still think it is a valid point we all know The Rolling Stones are one of the best band of all times The second and third one are The Smiths and Joy Division. When I was younger I couldn't stand Morrissey's voice as well Ian Curtis his voice but they're both top bands. There's not a lot of music I really hated and now think is ok though, as I never hated these bands.

I've been wondering who shenandoah is too. Has made some quality posts, with a bit of depth to em, i've noticed.
I don't get Joanna Newsom either. And i've tried, you know. I've listened to the YS album at least 4 times through, and bar the nice little moment of melody, i found it all pretty annoying tbh. Like Ben, i do respect her uniqueness and clear musical talent. But nah, not for me.
I do LOVE me some Daft Punk though, Mr Der effe! Though i can see why people would find em annoying. The sheer neverending repetition of some of their stuff becomes comical after a while. Loved the Tron Legacy soundtrack though. They're proper lazy cunts mind, and the last album proper was a bit duff.

- Used to hate radiohead, properly. still think ok computer is a big boring whinefest. but apart from that, the bends and amnesiac are pretty great. The massive problem is all the shitty pitchfork hipshits cumming over them. fuck off to the usual deerhunter/cocorosie world of soulles nobodies tbh. as it stands the music on my least appreciated albums by them is at least bearable tho tbh. so im a bad person i guess. - Used to hate the who when i was a kid. Theres still no excuse for shite like tommy and quadrophenia and that, but the mod stuff was alright. - the cure. a fat clown weeping with make-up on his face. while i still find that true, the music isnt that bad. sometimes. - rob stewart. poncey cunt, but then i found out his music is great (well up to a certain point in the 70s anyway) - amy whinehorse. annoying playmobil crack whore with a fat head. but the second album was ok. -mbv. horrible wanky shit. then i learned more about music and i kinda like them. isnt anything is where its at tho. edit: I swear to krishna that i didnt see your posts on the first page, jorn and shenandoah. cocorosie

Bruce Springsteen. 4 years ago, I wrote an entire blog post about how much I didn't get him, and how I hated his schtick. 2 years later, I was in New Jersey to see him play back to back nights at Giants Stadium. And then did it again the next year.

Also. This Nu-Soul shite thats claiming to be something more (deep, soulful love music. for the young urban proffesional, obv.) than what it is (bland, soulless shit designed to shuffle on your i-pod while shopping for shit sneakers). John Legend and the like. Fuck you man if you get music like that from greats as Curtis Mayfield and Bobby Bland.
Luckily we have Wintersox. or had, anyway

I'm not a fan of everything they've done but their earlier stuff is great.

I'd also like to add to my dislike of anything AC/DC, truly depressing music for people who are happy to be spoon fed the same boring rock-by-numbers over and over again. the greatest album of 1979 is highway to hell and not the wall.

How can I be happy after reading this thread? Just because you goons don't get The Wall doesn't mean it's shit. Yeah, The Wall is so far above me Andy You are really a clever chap for understanding The Wall It's music, it's not an like it's an intelligence thing. I would also like to stress that Cat Power is great and has at least three 8/10 albums. ;D

What's all the fuss about AC/DC? They're just one of those rock bands whose songs ALL sound the fucking same. It's not even "real" music FFS

Then, just because you don't get ac/dc doesn't mean they are shit! shut it karl. i remember u saying u thought highway to hell was shit. or was it back in black. one of em anyway. the fact they don't change and make soppy ballads like so many other hard rock bands make em what they are. angus will be wearing that school uniform on the stage into his 60's.
