Carry us all and Revolution Song are the two best songs from the SOTSOG demos. CUA = atheist's anthem. RS/SMM = Noel's most honest lyrics; feel for him! "Because I failed (i.e. BHN), they constantly ignore me..." WDIAGW's better with the demo treatment, the more prominent organ sound, but all versions are still very good Oasis songs. I voted DBTT - the first proper Oasis Mk. II album, with decent contributions from Liam et al, and a nice, varied selection of b-sides/bonus tracks. SOTSOG as a collection of songs is stellar, but the dysfunction of the band, and the awful "denim-suits/ matching haircuts" look for Li and No takes off a few points. HC's the worst though. Fanboi pandering at its worst (LBL and SCYHO, anyone?). |

I just listened to Turn Up The Sun for the first time in years. Loved it. A thumping opening, a killer chorus, blinding outro. Nice one, Andy Bell. At least his Oasis contribution stretched past A Quick Peep.

Surprised how much shit DBTT is getting, seem to remember it being quite popular on here. Can't be arsed to mess about with tracklists (I'll do that when im bored) but:
Album ratings:
SOTSOG - 6 - The good songs on it are top notch but half the album brings it right down
HC - 5 - Really like a few songs on it like THT, SCYHO, Songbird and BOADC, but over half of the album is average as fuck or absolute stinkers
DBTT - 8 - Used to love this album and still really like it. Not a stinker on here for me, would rate pretty much every song on it 7 or above, and its got some on my favourite Oasis songs in years at the point of release on it.
DOYS - 8.25 - This ones the best since the 90's for me, I really love about half of the songs on this album and most of the rest I like as well. The only duffer on here for me is TNOR which is awful. 6 out of the first 7 songs are especially good, I'd say the first two are up there with my favourite songs.

The Turning is a tune that everyone seemed to love at the time but no one mentions anymore. listening to it now, it starts off fucking brilliantly but the chorus is a bit of a cop out

Turn up the Sun is fucking shite. The music is classic Oasis, so it opens well, and the first line is the best opening line to any Oasis album (and could be Liam's motto). Sadly, "over the border and back to the snow" is sonic and literary vomit, not to mention the silly "I got a piano, I can't find the C" bit. |
