Proof, if it was needed, that Jimmy's hot takes go from spot on to hopelessly shite the more he drinks.

Sorry folks I've sobered up now. There's a few songs I really love on it. 'American sports' and 'Four out of Five'. Still if anybody else had released the album I'm certain it would have been slated by critics. The point still stands about Turner. He's a tax dodging arsewipe. His boyfriend Miles Kane is a terrible man too.

I’ve never been that arsed with them and haven’t really bothered with anything since Humbug (which I do like). I thought I’d give this a go because it’s been dividing opinion so much and I quite like it.
Actually like the ‘sonic palette’ on this, the keyboards and synths etc.. plenty of interesting arrangements. I’m only a couple of listens in, but think it has the potential to grow even more.

Does it stand against the likes of Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen or Bowie which is the league he is aiming to? Nah, probably more in the Father John Misty vein. Still, Alex has my respect for even trying.

agree with kev and barnz. it's quite a bold, personal sidestep and i respect alex turner for doing it. nothing on there is a hit but who gives a fuck. it's a potentially very good little album.

After about 5 or 6 listens, I'm warming to it. It sounds really good, some very nice producti, and it's definitely the sort of album that reveals itself more and more with every listen.
I think you have to respect him/them for not just bashing out AM: Part Deux.

I think it's really bloody good after three listens. Musically, possibly even the best thing they've ever done. Lyrically i need to listen more but they sound interesting at least.
I don't really get the criticism of his accent. Many many English singers have sung in an American accent over the years and it fits this kind of sound much better than a strong Sheffield accent would.
Looking forward to going back to this tomorrow.

I'm quite loving it, specially the first half. And specially the lyrics and mood. I've read some interviews and really digging his frame of mind. It's far less preachy than FJM, for instance, and way more funny. But I'm not a lyrics kind of guy anyway.
