Yeah, the fact he still enjoys the PAINS is proof that he is mentally ill. To the dungeon!

Dissolver by Younghusband is lovely in a lazy hazy way, including Warren Ellis assistance in two tracks. Sometimes you wish they'd shake things a bit more but if it works for Beach House... Might give them a second chance based on Barny's recommendation, the debut promised so much but was a massive let down for me.

that new Jonestown release sounded real good on first listen. I've kind of lost interest in Anton over recent years, I enjoy a lot of experimental psych-rock but for the most part I always find Anton's attempts to not be that interesting. Though when he mixes it with his knack for a good melody & tune it works wonders. With this & the LP with Tess Parks this year it has been a good year for those who enjoy the pre 2008 style. Is the soundtrack LP he put out this year worth bothering with?

After many listens of the Joanna Newsom album it just gets better and better as it opens up. Every track has a gorgeous hook while still being complex enough to never get tired. Her lyrics are second to none, the arrangements are incredible (Ryan Francesconi) and playing, on the harp especially (her piano is a bit clunky) is ridiculous.
I don't think there's been a better songwriter/performer/all round package since she released Ys.

Is the soundtrack LP he put out this year worth bothering with? Out of those three I liked the soundtrack one best actually, but the internet's opinion seems to disagree. Obv. now I'm realizing that I have only listened to it a handful of times, and that's months ago. But my impression was that it's quite heavy and dark (not loud). Really liked it. Also French. That Tess PArks album, that one song is so great, but then the rest of the songs are nine "alright" copies of that song. Also she sometimes sounds like a shemale.

The C.Duncan album is bloody gorgeous. Think Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear. Splendid harmonies, pastoral folkie dream poppy loveliness.
Also, the new Bowie single, Blackstar is one of the best things I've heard this year

It feels (in vocal and production) reminiscent of recent Scott Walker but less awkward and more tuneful, to me

Fans of indie guitar bands will almost certainly like The Districts - A Flourish and a Spoil.
A tidy little album. Nothing new - can hear bits of The Strokes, The Walkmen, The Libs and even a little Arctic Monkeys in there.
