Connections on first listen was a little disappointing. They have a wimpier sound this time around, I miss the crunchy guitar sound. Still liked it & I'm sure I'll enjoy it more with repeated listens but I'd be surprised if I end up liking it as much as Private Airplane or Into Sixes. I've gave it 3 spins and it's my least favourite Connections album by some way right now. It's still good, but yeah, bring back those crunchy guitars. |

It is just a shame as they've released this on a more high profile label & have dates with Kurt Vile so will be finally getting some attention but with perhaps their weakest record yet.

yeah i had similar thoughts on connections. still good but their weakest album so far. i love the track "low low low" thought.
really enjoyed the new courtney barnett on first listen but no surprises there. also really enjoying the album by ben lamar gay who i'd not heard of until recently.
was a fan of the last idris ackamoor album so looking forward to trying out the new one.

Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids - An Angel Fell is also well worth a look. This sounded glorious out in the sun this morning. Fucking mental how many good records have been released in this past month or so. It's a cracker of an album. Favourite thing off it so far is Soliloquy for Michael Brown. |

It's a really great record, I've loved almost everything they've done (not having Monastic Living..), I think the old Fall adage of 'always different, always the same' is quite apropos to them as well. This feels a little funkier, drums and bass are right at heart of the record and plenty of syncopated rhythms. But the lyrics on this record are really great, I've been clawing through them all week. Bravo to Parquet Courts. |

When the album started and I heard that familiar Parquet Courts guitar start up on 'Total Football' I thought maybe this won't be an album I like, then the song quickened up and that melodic buzzing bass started and it fell into a similar but also slightly different sounding groove. Fucking brilliant. |
