hahahaha
i've usually found james blake pretty dull with a couple of tracks i liked quite a bit, but i loved the 2 tracks he released last year and I think his new album is fucking fantastic tbh. strong songs, perfectly produced and sequenced, open-hearted, much more positive than before and perfect collaborations. it really surprised me.
i don't think it'd swing you karl, but it certainly swung me. i will pay him much more attention from now on.

Gotta say, I quite like that Ian Brown record The songs are really basic, like the sort of shit I make on adobe audition & his lyrics proper pony mostly, but for some reason I keep coming back to it. He definitely needs to surround himself with some talented people again, his best solo work has always been when he's worked with the likes of Aziz or Uncle but either way, I think it's just nice to hear his voice on record again. Plenty of stuff on Exy today for me to check out. The new Jessica Pratt, a Mercury Rev record of Bobbie Gentry covers, that LCD Soundsystem live record plus the new LEMONHEADS covers record.

absolutely loving the new michael chapman album. its reminding me a fair bit of that last leonard cohen album with a real sense of a man coming towards the end of his life. hopefully he's got a bit longer than leonard did though.

I'll check it out. He's one of those artists that I've seen the name mentioned over the years but don't think I've ever heard before. Listening to a bit on youtube, reminds me of Mark Lanegan.
I really love jonatan leandoer127's record. He was a Swedish cloud/trap rap artist called Yung Lean, must be huge because I looked on youtube and the first video I saw had 40 million views. Being old man Mahoney I'd never even heard of him, though I'm sure Stocky can fill us in. Anyway, he's dropped Yung Lean for a new persona, this record is catchy as fuck, reminds me of early beck with a sprinkle of maybe Lou Reed, pavement, Carseat headrest.

The Jessica Pratt record is amazing.
Not heard all the Mercury Rev Delta Sweete thing all the way through, but the two tracks i have heard are fantastic.

That Ian Brown album is painfully bad in places. The production is ropey as fuck, but the standard of songs is very low. Has he done any real promotion for it? I've not seen any interviews with him.

James Blake recommendations and Dido on the same page. Feels a bit like when Moyes told Vidic and Ferdinand to study videos of Jagielka. Cheers lads.

a Mercury Rev record of Bobbie Gentry covers I'd rather just shoot myself, thanks. Honestly, it's brilliant.. The original is obvs great, but this really has a load of merit in it's own right. Mercury Rev's music and production is perfect and the guest vocalists perfectly chosen. I can't stop listening

Yeah I rate them JP. Their album launch was last night but I took my Mrs for drinks instead. I find it increasingly difficult to persuade anyone to go and spend their weeknights watching unknown bands in small venues

Barny, see what you make of this band. They're sort of power-pop/kinda garage rock, reminded me in parts of those early Mando Diao records you love.

Giving it a listen now, I'd say it's more poppy than early Mando Diao, in a BuzzcocksUndertones way. But yeah, totally up my alley.
I've been thinking for a while I find very hard to find soul-rock vocals with 60s melodies and punkish production, which is a "genre" I melt for. Royal Headache was also a bit like that too, but a one trick pony. There are older examples like The Jam, Rundgren or Dexys (a lot more in fact), but I'm a sucker for the noughties sheen.
(As I wrote that, the songs are getting closer to that sound, LOVELY)

I'll keep an ear open for anything along those lines.
JP, did you get that Savage Mansion from Soulseek? I'm having trouble finding it.
