Whereas Rock'n'Roll sounds very rushed and sloppy
This certainly doesn't
Haha Numbers!

Downloading now, glad to hear there's some rock songs on there, the ones he'd previously done with The Cardinals (Asteroid, Halloweenhead, Magick, Heavy Orange) were generally the only things that were actually improvements on what he'd done solo

Just given it a first listen. I really liked it, If you take the album on its own there isn't much to dislike about it. Obviously very different from fan favourites like Heartbreaker, Gold and Love is Hell and simular in style to Rock N Roll, but its still got some really good tunes on it.
Going to give it a second listen later and see if any of the songs grab me a bit more. Thats what usually happens to me with Ryan Adams albums, i'll listen, think 'thats alright' and then get hooked on a couple of songs and then the entire album reveals itself.

I got through about 13 songs before I got into work and I'm liking what I hear so far.
Numbers is a beast lol.

Love most of III, not so enthused about IV after the first listen. Didn't really care for much on there except for No and Sewers first time through, but I'm sure it'll grow on me.
Mahoney, what songs would you have put on a 12 track album?

Just finished it. So it is supposed to be two records? As usual with all Ryan's releases I'm gonna be the first to say that it could of been a great 12 track album but I guess he'll never learn to edit himself. I'm really surprised how un-cardinal's sounding the whole thing is. Was only a couple of tracks I would of guessed was with them. Theres about 8 that sound Rock N Roll era of which a few feel a bit forced & goofy though they are short & fun so I have no complaints. First impressions (& I know a lot of people hate Rock N Roll but whatever, I dig it) it's my favourite material he's put out since Love Is Hell/Rock & roll. Has got me even more excited for what his record(s?) due out next year. D/L my first Ryan Adams record in many many many years, you made me curious. ;D (i'm a pre-cold roses fan)

Well this album was not what I was expecting at all. Thought we were going to get hit with with some alt-country tunes that didn't make it onto Easy Tiger or Cardinology. But this is something refreshingly different, a reminder that he can take you by surprise, because it's been a while. III > IV at this point, though. Plenty of good songs throughout but the real stand-outs for me so far have got to be Dear Candy, Lovely & Blue, Happy Birthday, The Crystal Skull, Numbers, Gracie and Kill The Light. It was high time he got some new material out. I was freaking out man. Bring on Blackhole.

I'm well excited for Blackhole. The two tunes we've heard so far, Tomorrowland and Disco Queen, are great. Can't wait to hear the rest of it.

When does this record date from? Like Mahoney said it'd be a good single album, gets a bit samey after a while but I enjoy it, Andy's picked out most of the standout tracks I think. It doesn't have as much of that vibe I associate with the Cardinals of songs being schmaltzed over, it's more decent songs being beefed up and now and again hitting the sweet spot. So, like, well done here guys but overall I'm glad you've stopped playing on his records x
Is there a tracklist knocking about for Blackhole?

It was recorded after Cold Roses and just before Easy Tiger. Similar to the Love is Hell scenario, Easy Tiger was seen as more commercial so decided against releasing these 2.
For those who might not be aware Cold Roses, Jacksonville City Nights & 29 were released in the opposite order to which they came out. No idea when Blackhole was recorded. Tomorrowland is TUUUUNE though

Ah right so Jacksonville City Nights (Surely the best Cards album) and Cold Roses are I and II, making these III and IV, how clever. Hope Don't Get Sentimental On Me and Lighthouses make appearances somewhere down the line, been in love with those tunes since he played them live a few years ago.

Correct my friend.
Darkbreaker - The Elizabeth Town sessions is pre-29 i think as some of the songs reappear on that album.

I cant stop playing III/IV, its probably going to end up one of my favourite albums of the year. I know it's not perfect but I think I like almost every fucking tune on there. I'm very excited about Ryan again
