Honestly I quite like it from the two or three times I've given the album a spin. I can already see why people are complaining saying it doesn't sound like Is This It or Room On Fire (minus All The Time) but you don't get many bands that make two classic albums and can keep that same success up album to album.
I can see why they have no plans to tour. This album seems like it would be very hard to pull off live (especially the vocals).
My favorite tracks so far are Tap Out, Welcome to Japan and 50 50.
This is probably my favorite Strokes album behind the big two.

I can see why they have no plans to tour. What? Fucking cunts. They barely toured Angles. I will say though - I was also listening to it and wondering how on earth they would pull some of those songs off live.

I really don't know what to think of it at this point. It's going to take a few more listens before I make my mind up.

First listen, for now I'll just say this seems closer to their intentions than Angles, more fully realized.

Its brilliant. Everything Angles should have been and more. A massive surprise. Groovy as fuck, practically an 80's dance record.

Third listen and fuck, some really interesting sounds round here, as predictable as it seems coming from a Strokes groupie. I can obviously see people totally put off by this, but if you forget what they did and give it a few chances, it is a very rewarding album. It has clicked much earlier than I thought it would, specially cos I thought it would not. I admit being completely surprised.
The instant WTF when Tap Out begins, the hypnotic mellotron of the title track, the distorted vocals in 50/50, Partners in Crime's bounciness, the jazzy last one (very Little Joy-esque)... All those little great moments genuinely melt me like only The Strokes can.

I completely hate that first paragraph I wrote It's so very typical and generic, but I mean every single word of it. And it's not worse than Stocky being photobombed at the MBV concert...

First listen, I was really unsure what to think of it.
However, I've gave it a few more spins and it's winning me over with each listen.

Stand outs are surprisingly (as they're probably the least strokesy tracks) are '80s comedown machine' and 'call it fate, call it karma'. Not so keen on One Way Trigger, which to my ears just sounds like an A-Ha b-side, but Strokes songs often grow on me, so maybe that will too. Best thing they've done since the debut.

Yeah, it's what should've come out after Room On Fire or something. It clicks with me. I'd give it a 7/10 so far.
