;D
My only complaints are Chances and All The Time. The first one sounds a little flat instrumentally, too Julianesque probably. The second one seems completely out of place in the record.

As an album, it's decent enough. As a Strokes album, it's easily the worst of the lot.
And Julian's falsetto is cringing at times. Stick to your gruff crooning mate.

very dancy album. openining song is awesome.. man the lack of guitar punch got to me initially.. like the strokes would really pull your heart strings back in the day - trying your luck.
one way trigger stil does it for me. chance is very cool, last tune is fantastic - very Door's like. Definitely pushing boundaries.
can't rate it yet.

The lack of promotion is quite strange, even annoying considering they seem to be closer than 2 or 3 years ago. I can understand they want to protect themselves from the media distortion, with Angles all the interviews were like "it's a miracle they remain together!".
But this time they have only put out a mediocre video for a mediocre song. No tour, no late-nights, no interviews. It has only reached people who already know who The Strokes are and most of them didn't want a record like this one. I think Comedown Machine could appeal to people not so familiar with them, with less prejudices.
They might be trying to build a low profile or maybe they're just not really arsed. I dig the record though.

I think they owed the record company another album. They should ahve just called it 'Contractual Agreement'.

But if there's a throwaway record, it is Angles, not this one. This is quite more focused and better in every single thing but hit singles.

Didzagree. Angles at least had some great highlights. This new record is a complete embarrassment.

Angles is good fun! A handful of belters and the filler is all nice, good, fine, decent and dandy. This one is just the filler from Angles stretched to an album, decent enough but I've not been arsed to go back to it for weeks.

I have to say that I've warmed to this album a lot more in recent weeks. One More Trigger and Welcome To Japan are quality tunes. It's the equal of Angles I would say, even if it does lack something as classic as Under the Cover of Darkness.

I don't get the lack of interviews.
There is zero promotion for the new album.. as if they made this album that breaks the mold and now they're vulnerable/shy to talk about it.

I don't think it's because they're shy, dv.

I'm sure when the record flops they can all run back to their millionaire daddies for comfort.

You wish Paul Smeller, The Trifles or BRMP could write a song as good as Welcome to Japan.
