Listened to macca's new one a few times. It's pretty good, but about 4 songs too long. As always, quality control isn't exactly his strong suit.

Only gave it one listen, but I'd say it's his weakest in a while, but for some reason I find Fuh You a magnificent song. Niiice, I just heard it and besides the endless last track (which I guess is kinda the point) the rest was quite satisfying.

Cheers Barns. The next project which I've already got a few ideas for will hopefully be more melodic/song-based.

Spiritualized new one I'm finding dull as fuck. TBH I think I've fallen out of love with him anyway which doesn't help. But hearing him deliver the same old poncy miserable shit with his non-existent voice completely rubbed me the wrong way this morning.
LOVE the new Terry LP & I'm enjoying the new Anna Calvi record. I've always been a bit sceptical of her but the new one for my money is her best work yet even if at times it feels like some elbow-eque arena-fodder is thrown into songs that don't require it.

Agree with Spiritualized although I'm not that harsh on him, just a by numbers record. Anna Calvi on the other hand, everybody is calling her brave and praising the topics and lyrics... but musically I find it the worst of her three lps.
Heard once the new Richard Ashcroft song and sounded decent, I'd like him to take a full on soul vibe for once but it will surely be the same plodding shit.
And Terry... I wont even try tbh

What the fucks wrong with you, Barny? GET A GRIP.
Wasn't keen on that new Anna Calvi, got about halfway through and just didn't like the production at all.

Yeah the production is what I've got a problem with, there's a really excellent set of songs in there that'd be better served with something that is a little bit rawer & true to itself.

probably one of the biggest release days of the year so far for me today.
sleaford mods and aphex twin eps both sounding great on first listen. weller's album was decent but not as good as i hoped based on the singles. all good tunes but felt a bit long and one paced on the first sitting.
still got the new lps by goon sax, low and orbital to check out too.

The Orbital album is dreadful.

First album I've been excited about in, well, six years. It's been mixed by Rob Schnapf too who did most of the Elliott Smith albums *EJACULATION ALERT*
PS - Just stumbled across a live peformance of hers and noticed she recruited Axl on guitar at some stage...

Listened to weller's new one a few times now and it gets better with each listen, I find. The subtle differences in each song seem to come to the fore with more listens. Best one since wake up the nation, I think.

The latest Sleaford Mods EP sounds flat. Jason has lost his edge.

don't tell him that on twitter, he's a bit sensitive to criticism.
i completely disagree btw. i love it and think stick in a five and go is one of their best tunes in some time. i also think andrew's beats are a bit more developed and interesting sounding on this ep.

I agree on the beats actually, Andrew always delivers the goods. Maybe I'll warm to this EP, but I really wasn't arsed by their last album. I played back a few of their older tunes last night and the difference in quality is marked.

i still love them but i know what you're saying. lyrically they're a watered down version of what made them so great in the first place. you can tell a record label had a word and got them to tone down the crudeness and swearing to produce a few radio hits on each release since they signed with rough trade.
having said that though, as jason williamson points out in interviews it would be a bit weird if he continued spouting the same old shit from 6 years ago now they're pretty successful with comfortable lifestyles. i definitley prefer pissed up off his face on coke jason to the teetotal gym freak jason though.
