I was browsing the RYM message boards and there is a GBV thread I like to pop into when they have a new record out to see what people have thought & saw someone had shared a link to a 64 song covers project which had mostly obscure Pollard numbers. Had a little look to see what their usual music sounds like & saw he had about 90 releases all in the space of about 5 years. Flicked through a ton of random tunes & he sounds like some kind of lo-fi god. He has a new record out this week, there's a trailer of mini clips of the songs which gives u a good taste of what he sounds like
He's selling his entire back catalogue for $5 which me & Tux have purchased.
The goal of this thread, if Tucker & anybody else accepts is to listen to all this shit. You can just stream it off bandcamp too.
Tucker, shall we do this? one record a day on weekdays? Seems they're in chronological order with the oldest being at the bottom of the page so I guess it would make sense to go from the start?
can confirm: I am more of a mad Bandcamp cunt than the son of Pollard, but I will note that there are some covers-only releases (most of them are called Writer's Block) that can't be bought and therefore aren't part of the 88 releases a few people here bought

I am so down for this. And welcome to the forum Hello Whirled.

Woah! Welcome Mad_Bandcamp_Cunt. Very much looking forward to ploughing through your back catalogue. Your creativity is insanely impressive.
hey all. I just want you all to know this is absolutely surreal, but I'm looking forward to seeing what people I don't know think of my music
figure it's worth throwing in there that a lot of the Bandcamp stuff is about EP length. if you really wanted to, you can do a few a day. I can even devise a list of potentially helpful split points. just saying this because the five 2016 releases could easily be 1 day, or at least the first 3.

I think one a day will be enough that me & Tucker can commit to it.
This is excellent tbh. A real defining moment in our history. I look forward to Whirly becoming an established member of our community.
And Whirly (you gotta change your display name to that, its gonna stick) this must be awesome for you. We're not exactly a thriving forum with 100s of posts a day, but for your music to reach and to get some of us excited for a deep-dive, it must be a real trip for you.

ok.
I might join in, there's some really old stuff I haven't listened to in a while
Starting with 2016's MORNING, which I assume was the first release. Only 11 minutes in length so I've just given this 3 back to back listens.
The bookends on this EP are superb. Fall Of Mantis is a hectic blast. Pamphlet sounds like early REM until that distorted guitar comes in and rapes your ears, cool vibe to that even if 'm not sure it all works as a whole. Everyone In Your Hands is a lovely short ballad, proper GBV vibes from this. The two that follow didn't really grab me but Whores of the Tundra is the real highlight here, lovely guitar tone, vocals work perfectly too.
My playlist of every good song recorded by everybody ever currently has 375 Bob Pollard songs in it, I've a good feeling I can find at least half that amount in this back catalogue. I'm going to score these songs as either Mad Bandcamp Cunt or Son of Pollard.
1. Fall Of Mantis - Son of Pollard 2. Pamphlet - Mad Bandcamp Cunt 3. Everyone In Your Hands - Son of Pollard 4. One Example At A Time - Mad Bandcamp Cunt 5. Public Class - Mad Bandcamp Cunt 6. Whores Of The Tundra - Son of Pollard
Current score: Bob Pollard 375 - Hello Whirled 3.

Morning was recorded in a single day. The only song written in advance of recording was "Fall Of Mantis". I was listening to a LOT of Field Mice around that time.
One day? Bloody hell, if I come up with a song title in a day I'm happy. Never spent much time with Field Mice, I remember quite liking the For Keeps record which I probably haven't heard in about 15 years. Will have to give them a go.
