I'm really disappointed with this year so far, sure I've not heard as much as I usually would of but nothings really grabbed me much recently. I rarely feel like looking out for new stuff and when I do it's fucking BORING like that allo darling record. If someone could recommend me some LP's they think I will like that would be nice. How I'd rank the stuff I've heard this year: The Vaselines - Sex With an X [7] Rose Elinor Dougall - Without Why [5] Best Coast - Crazy for You [7] Allo, Darlin' - Allo Darlin' [5] Teenage Fanclub - Shadows [5] The Black Keys - Brothers [8] LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening [7] The Futureheads - The Chaos [8] Freebass - It's a Beautiful Life [4] The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt [8] Paul Weller - Wake Up the Nation [8] Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs - Medicine County [6] Laura Marling - I Speak Because I Can [8] Gorillaz - Plastic Beach [8] The Morning Benders - Big Echo [5] Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Beat the Devil's Tattoo [8] Television Personalities - A Memory Is Better Than Nothing [4] The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Who Killed Sgt. Pepper? [5] Field Music - Measure [4] Race Horses - Goodbye Falkenburg [5] Eels - End Times [9] Surfer Blood - Astro Coast [5] The Hotrats - Turn Ons [5] Kevin Burgess - Vaudeville Hopscotch [8] The Sunshine Underground - Nobody's Coming to Save You [5] Darwin Deez - Darwin Deez [6] The Coral - The Butterfly House [7 so far] The Fall - Our Future Your Clutter [7] Gil-Scott Heron - Im New Here [7] I can't think of much I'm looking forward to for the rest of 2010 minus the 2nd Eels LP. Starting to think I've hit the point in life where I give up with new music and just stick with the shit I've liked forever

A few albums that spring to mind that i've enjoyed and are not on your list..
Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffitt - Before Today
I know you think he's a big gayer, but the record is fabulous
Janelle Monae - The Archandroid
Soulful, funk, hip-hop 'diva' who has elements of Stevie, Marvin, Joni, James Brown, Prince, Jacko, Outkast, Beyonce...
The Soft Pack - The Soft Pack
Garage pop rock, similar in vein to the Black Lips i thought, but a bit more polished.
Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty
Only had a few listens but its good, colaidoscopic stuff..
Avi Buffalo - Avi Buffalo
Shins like twee-ish pop
But must admit, I haven't listened to nearly as much new music this year as usual, nice to see my album doing well in the Mahoney charts too

Crystal Castles new album is my favourite from this year so far I reckon, you should get in amongst it Karl. Haven't you heard The Soft Pack? You literally can't go wrong with that album. Oh and Tame Impala too. Actually been a few quality albums this year I reckon.

That Xiu Xiu album is the worst thing I've ever heard as far as I remember

i like it. its lost some of the experimentalism of the earlier stuff but that has been replaced with some pretty cool melodies so i was pretty happy.

just looking over my list though, im finding it hard to think of something to reccommend to mahoney. tbh i dont think a lot of the music being made over the last couple of years suits your taste bruv. a lot of the albums on my list seem to be fuzzy twee stuff or lofi american bands doing chillwave, two scenes id imagine youre not that into. just seems to be the fashions at the minute, im sure it will all change again in a few months time and theyll be a load more stuff out there youll like again
suprised you didnt like the race horses album though, ive only given it the one spin but found it pretty good. reckon it has potential to climb its way up my charts through the year. was gonna see them at latitude but they clashed with someone better

The Drums are utterly rank and I'm sure Mahoney agrees.

This is Gem. The Drums album isn't bad, I reckon it got some great summer pop tunes.

Remind me of a Vampire weekend rip-off and Vampire Weekend are the last band in the world that needs to be spawning similar bands.

Thanks for the response guys. I'll grab a bunch of these now.
I actually heard a soft pack tune on bbc6 a few months ago and it was really good, forgot about that. Never could make my mind up about the first crystal castles record, is it much better than the first? I like the idea of them tho putting on mental gigs where the crowd gets hurt, real rock n roll. Ben, I Will give love language a go soon as well. I've not been fussed what I heard by beach house, Drums album is shit, didnt; mind the EP but I never wanna hear of them again, I am emotionally scarred from seeing them live, JP, I thought Race Horses were quite good when I saw them, obvious compartments then were gorkys/SFA but found the LP far too quirky for it's own good, his voice really grated on me & it just didn't feel organic in the slightest, was like they were trying everything they could to make the songs sound unique and failing real bad. I'll give that Ariel Pink a go as well.
JP, that northern portrait who did the Smiths ripoff, their albums on dancing jesus.

Favourite ones, no order
Adam Green - Minor Love Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Before Today BRMC - Beat The Devil's Tattoo Eels - End Times MGMT - Congratulations Paul Weller - Wake Up The Nation Spirit Night - What Will We Be The Black Keys - Brothers The Futureheads - The Chaos
Another decent ones are
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach Harlem - Hippies The Courteneers - Falcon The Dead Weather - Sea Of Cowards The National - High Violet The Soft Pack - The Soft Pack The Strange Boys - Be Brave The Tallest Man On Earth - Be Brave The Wave Pictures - Susan Rode The Cyclone
The Drums, Race Horses and Free Energy would enter the "meh" category, along many others... Can find them enjoyable sometimes and dull or shit after some days.
Haven't heard the new Coral yet.

Ok Andy, you've twisted my melon man. I'll look into it.
I can't see the Strokes getting their new record out this year. BDI will smash them in '11.

Julian live was quite good tbh, they even improvised a Reptilia version accepting a general request. He put his band together and said "Ok, we're gonna do it, it won't last more than 10 seconds though, power to the people". Then the result was way too good for being improvised at all, but still, nice gesture.
