Even if it's a 20 years period, it's only 2 records since and I'm a big Black and White fan anyway, really underrated one

Outside a bunch of excellent Jazz releases, this year has been pretty rotten for new stuff.
But, the Anohni & The Johnson's record, which I've only listened to in recent days is fucking brilliant.

Jalen Ngonda is my recommendation of the week. Marvellous soul record.

I have a really hard time differentiating a good Slowdive record from a mid one

Any thoughts on the new Coral? Especially from JP, who seemed to have enjoyed last year's LP a lot. The reviews I read were all overwhelmingly positive.

Found the Coral record dull. It feels at this point like Skelly could knock out these type of songs in his sleep. All that talk of Morricone & Lee Hazlewood, to me it's more Neil Diamond. Well crafted songs granted, but this many albums in I just don't care to hear a nicely produced 3 and a half minute verse/chorus James Skelly song. He should get into publishing, bet he could write some great songs for other artists.

Mind you this does often happen with latter day Coral and it takes a few listens to fetch under my skin. Will spend a bit more time with it.

The debut album by Coach Party's a blast. I might just scrape together enough for an end of year list yet.

Jalen Ngonda is my recommendation of the week. Marvellous soul record. I like this, in spite of the blatant Marvin Gaye rip off in places.

Just got round to listening to Durand Jones and really like it. I'm a big fan of his stuff with the Indications but this is a fair bit different with a more raw, gospel ballad style compared to the disco/funk of the indications records. I could listen to his voice all day long. For me, Monophonics and Durand Jones are the real leading players in the modern soul scene. He's playing five minutes from my house in a about a week. Bought tickets based on this comment, then giving a quick listen to some of his tunes. Understandably not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it'll translate to the live setting pretty nicely, and it's a good venue. Looking forward to it, thanks for the recommendation.

Anyone checked out Das Koolies? Probably the closest thing we'll get to a new SFA record.

Listening to the new teenage fanclub album. It sounds exactly like every other latter day fannies album, which is to say right up my alley. I may not be able to differentiate any of the songs between this one and the last one (or remember any names), but it’s entirely acceptable as an addition to the canon.

Even with this, the hives, pj Harvey and Noel having new albums out this year, nothing has even come close to supergaz.
